How was your weekend? I’ve been taking an unintentional break from social media. ¬†Things have been hard for us here. ¬†We realised Cape town is really not for us, no matter how beautiful it is to other people I literally feel like I’m in spirit prison here. ¬†My ears are always popped, I’ve got insane sinus face pains that feels like Cape town is trying to squeeze my head in and kill me, every time we’ve gone for a walk I’ve been caught on barbed wire, that’s completely ruined my clothes or been harassed by beggars drunk out of their minds, trying not to get shocked by low hanging electric wires has also been a problem for me and the smell is just horrible. ¬†Being woken up the whole time by the fog horn like I’m in the heart of mordor has not been easy, I’m running on no sleep, constantly uncomfy and in a lot of pain, but this to shall pass and everything will feel a okay again.

How was your weekend? We had quite the eventful weekend. ¬†Driving around the coast to have a picnic in the botanical gardens and visiting company’s gardens.

an instant of life captured for eternity

We’ve been going on little walks around the neighbourhood every night when Carl gets home from work. ¬†Walking at 6 – 7 is a peaceful time here, hardly anyone on the streets, just a couple of crazy drivers, driving like the autobahn opened up here or something, its a reasonably peaceful time to talk, catch up, talk about future plans and where we are headed next. ¬†We usually go back home when the hunger starts kicking in, but I really appreciate these little moments with Carl, its been a rough couple of weeks, going from seeing each other all the time for 4 months to hardly seeing each other. ¬†Its especially hard for me, I try with all my might to stay up to talk and cuddle, but all I can seem to do is fall asleep hard, and wake up when Carl asks me if I’m awake, I usually respond with some mumbo jumbo that makes no sense, but hey we always have weekend. ¬†Life lately!

^^  We had a crazy storm on Friday.  When I say I crazy, I mean winds up to 150 km! The aftermath was quite intense, we even found a dead seal on the beach.  It really bummed me out the whole day.

IMG_2701new

^^ We woke up one morning to this.  The moon still huge and the sky a purpley, blue colour.

IMG_2709new

^^ Trying to keep your eyes open in this amazing brightness proved to hard of a task for Carl.  If you look at the beach you can see all the seaweed washed up.

IMG_2715new

^^ This is my it smells so horrible face. ¬†The after storm smell is just so horrid. ¬†The seagulls don’t seem to mind.

IMG_2718new

^^ Sea foam.  I later googled this stuff only to find out that its basically seaweed poop all frothed up to make this weird foamy mess.

Things are finally starting to settle in.  We feel more at rest and ready to take on the world.  How was your weekend?

We’ve made it to CAPE TOWN! After a gruelling 19 hours of travel, we finally made it. ¬†We had a lot of trials on this trip. ¬†Being knocked down with a cold and being on a plane was definitely number one, I was hit hard with extreme nausea, not being able to breathe and just all those wonderful cold symptoms no one would want on a plane trip. I’m pretty sure a lot of people will get my gross Irish germs and have their little holidays ruined. ¬†I’m sorry in advance people who were in the plane with me! If I could go back and time and not give all my medication to sick missionaries I would! ¬†Turkish Airlines was an amazing flight, lots of leg room, wonderful staff, amazing food that caters for every dietary restriction and the best part they let you sleep without bothering you! ¬†I preferred it over the Emirates flight, don’t get me wrong the Emirates flight was nice, but it would have been nicer in first class, in economy you hardly have any leg room and you kind of have to squeeze your way in and hope you don’t have to go to loo. ¬†Also it doesn’t matter how many stickers you put on your blanket not to be disturbed they still wake you up. ¬†The Turkish Airlines flight was also just 13 hours to Joburg, that seemed like a breeze compared to 18 hours with Emirates.

We are here and we are excited to get exploring! We had an amazing sleep at our room thanks to airbnb! We are also right in the heart of the city bowl and a quick walk from the waterfront!

A common question we get asked in Dublin is ” why Dublin?!” Like Ireland is the worst place in the world to be. ¬†Mostly people are really horrified by the weather and say “you will get over it in a couple of months”, but for me the weather is absolutely perfect, the clearest blue skies with a crispness in the air that just can’t be beaten , the ever changing weather all in one day, its a whirlwind that I love, the beautiful grey days, and the slightest amounts of rain that’s great for walking in, to me its the best place ever! Sometimes you just have to get lost in the beauty of the little things, if you start looking around you will find tiny blessing all around, and to me, here in Dublin you don’t have to look really hard.
