I like long walks on the beach / West Coast National Park

The west coast national park is just a quick hour and a half drive away from Cape town central and oh, so amazing. ¬†We ¬†decided to go for a weekend adventure and see what all the talk is about with the spring flowers and we were surely not disappointing. ¬†During flower season the whole park is filled with wild flowers all over, ¬†if your heaven is a flower covered paradise I bet you will think you died and went to heaven, but today’s post is not about the flowers, I wish it were, I just can’t get all those flowers out my head, but its about the amazing beaches in this park. ¬†When people say they like long walks on the beach, they must be talking about west coast national park? ¬†Walking on long stretches of deserted beaches with the gentle waves lapping at your feet will make anyone a romantic. ¬†I felt like I was in a romantic novel walking on the beach while holding Carl’s hand.

Next time I think we will definitely make a weekend trip and stay at the park, there is just so much to do and not enough hours in one day to fully experience this park, especially when you forgot to fill the car up with petrol/gas and you don’t know if you will ever make it out of the park. ¬†Don’t worry we found a gas station. ¬†I took a little piece of the park home with me thanks to the ridiculous amount of beach sand that was leftover in my shoes, ¬†once you get sand in your shoes you will never get all the traces out again. ¬†Now, I carry little pieces of the park with me every time I lace up my trainers.

Hello friends! How was your weekend? Can you believe its already August, I can’t believe how fast this year has just flown by. ¬†We celebrated our first wedding anniversary by taking a drive into the countryside of Cape town, we found the sweetest little town to walk around in and feel all giddy, I was really surprised by all the restaurants serving vegan friendly meals, its something you don’t often see in small towns! We are still looking for a perfect print to order, so nothing on the first year wedding anniversary gift front yet, but we will find the perfect print eventually, I hope.

Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens

I’ve decided to start being more proactive, well proactive in things I want to do, because come weekend Carl and I both get upset with our lack of knowing what to do and the typical I don’t know? what do you want to do? can test any relationship, no matter how great it is.

A couple of years ago I remember attending a wedding in Harold Porter, the venue and the wedding stuck with me even if I remember how uncomfortable I felt. ¬†Being stuck at the kiddie picnic blanket will do that to you. ¬†It just proves all advertising is good advertising…I clearly remember the beautiful mountains, little streams, and how it felt like something straight out of lord of the rings. ¬†I didn’t realize it was 90 km away from us, so I was hoping that my memory did not let me down and it wasn’t going to be a completely imagined thing I made up in my head.

The scenic drive is well worth the trip, on one side you have beautiful mountain and on the other endless ocean, after seeing so many signs that said dangerous rock falls, I calmly told Carl I will be the rock look out for the remainder of the drive. ¬†Being with a man that’s just as panicky as I am and drives the speed limit is just wonderful, I laughed so hard when we had a whole string of people behind us and Carl just looked in the rear view mirror and said ” I hope you guys brought snacks, because this is going to be a long, careful drive.”

When we arrived I was relieved to see that it was even better than I could remember. ¬†Little bridges, streams, and mountains everywhere made me feel like I ¬†was finally in paradise. ¬†Children laughing running around and just having fun, gave it a touch of whimsy. ¬†Even the frog that came after me and decided it wasn’t interested in Carl when I made a run for it added a touch of fun to it. ¬†I recommend you take a picnic and just relax and soak up the beautiful scenery and the amazing smell of the fynbos.
