Feeding Arren has been such a joy, this boy loves food! He’s taken a liking to everything he’s tried so far and eats with such gusto. Continue reading
^^ Our first package from amazon arrived! Before the stuff we ordered from South Africa… Pretty silly I think!
^^ Walks around Kalk bay, are always interesting.
^^ old signs.
I love this garden statue!
^^ Cacti in cute little cups.
^^ I’ve been missing Ireland like crazy lately, well I’ve been missing anywhere that’s not here, but Ireland will forever have my heart and these saints made my heart hurt a bit.
^^ Pretty flowers on our walk, can you spot the bee fattening himself up?
^^ This place is apparently the best place to eat fish and chips.
^^ Really disgusting fish drying!
^^ Harbour boats.
^^ Everything is so colourful.
^^ I finally found a mango! My sister told me about a fruit stall selling mango and I couldn’t wait to get one! The beach and a mango, seems almost too good to be true.
Hi friends! How was your weekend? is everyone ready for thanksgiving/ friendsgiving? We’ve still been on a mad rush trying to get everything done before the baby arrives and getting all the herbs I need for my confinement. We want everything to be really well stocked so the confinement goes really smooth. With the mad rushing to sort out everything before baby, confinement for a month, resting and bonding with baby seems like pure bliss!
Hope everyone has a great week!
^^ Found this really inexpensive chest of drawers for the baby’s room and gave it a little make over.
^^ I wanted more of a woodland green, but I just didn’t have enough paint stainer to get it there. Happy surprises, because I really like the way it turned out. Later on I spray painted the knobs gold. Walking around with a face mask, while pregnant felt like a ridiculous sight, but things need to get done!
^^ Nursery break! I’ve been desperately looking for a fiddle fig tree, with no luck at all. I’ll find you my beautiful planty friend!
^^ Made the best sugar free, gluten free pumpkin pie bars ever! It was like magic in my mouth, the gingery crust, made me feel like crying tears of happiness! I was floating my own boat hard while thinking I’m a recipe genius!
^^ My cute little kitchen friends.
^^ Protein shake in the baby’s room!
^^ Kind of done with the baby’s mobile, I still feel like I’m missing one little woodland friend? What do you think?
^^ The guinea fowl family on our walk again, these guys really know how to make you feel bad, when you try to pass them, and they all scatter like you’re the biggest murderer on this planet.
Hi friends! Whew! Its been a couple of days hasn’t it? I’ve just been so busy with all lives demands and trying to get everything ready for the baby! I still feel like I have so much to do and buy! I’m starting to feel just a tad overwhelmed, but I downloaded the hypnobabies app on my phone and its just the best thing to listen to!
I feel like this week has been a whirlwind for the entire world……I try to keep my blog neutral and easy, but what is going on with the world? I’m still in so much shock about the US elections and the effect this will have on all the other countries and I just can’t believe people chose fear again so soon after brexit. In the beginning of the year I couldn’t wait to see what humans were going to do next and now, I’m like how is such a racist, sexist, completely insane man, going to be president? but who knows maybe this will be the time were people stand together and realise fear is not the answer, we should live with kindness and treat people kindly. Okay! Rant over! I felt like I needed to say something about all the craziness right now! Things will get better, the earth is too beautiful to not care!
Hello Third Trimester! I can’t believe I’ve made it to the third trimester, I feel like this pregnancy is just flying by and I’m just sitting here trying to enjoy it as much as I can. I know a lot of woman if not all hate pregnancy, but I’m loving it! Growing a healthy baby is an amazing feeling, sometimes a little bit alien and weird, but mostly just amazing! Feeling my baby kick inside me and sometimes flip around like a tiny gymnast is a wonderful feeling, the baby has even started kicking for Carl, not on demand, baby still stops kicking as soon as Carl touches my belly, but when Carl starts talking to baby, the kicking continues.
Symptoms : I’ve been really lucky and I haven’t had any serious symptoms throughout this pregnancy (knock on wood). Maybe its because I’m feeding my body only good nutrients, not having any sugar and cut down on gluten, but I feel great! My mood has been a little iffy, I sometimes get irrational anger towards Carl and the weird things he does at dinner table. I’m sleeping pretty great and wake up feeling refreshed, I really hope it stays that way! Baby seems to sleep at night and kick the living daylights out of me during the day. I also made the decision not to have anything to do with stress, and not seeing any negative people that make me feel bad until this baby is born. Its been one of the best decisions I’ve made, I’m putting my baby’s health and my health first, and I’ve seen the positive way I feel since deciding this. I want to continue staying, healthy and strong ;physically and emotionally for my home birth in December! I’ll see you negative Nancy’s in December!
Cravings: I haven’t been craving anything really. I’m eating healthy meals, often. I did find the most amazing all natural peanut butter, that’s made with all natural ingredients, including flax seed oil that I haven’t been able to get enough of. Its just amazing! I recommend oh mega peanut butter to everyone! Its just amazing!
Exercise: I’ve been exercising every day for 30 – 40 minutes. Light Cardio, some weight training and Pilates during the week. On the weekend Carl and I like to go for a hour and half hike or walk.
Looking forward to: I’m looking forward to getting the nursery ready! I can’t wait to get into our new place to get painting and setting up for baby.
All in all, I’m feeling pretty great about the pregnancy, birth and becoming a Mother. I’m really excited to hold my baby in my arms and make our earthly adventure even more exciting.
^^ Found the best organic shop with the most amazing rye bread ever.
^^ I love this little guy.
^^ I can’t seem to find clothes that fit me here. There workout pants even look baggy and like they want to fall right off.
^^ After hike salad on rye.
^^ My favourite green smoothie with a view.
^^ Veggie sushi dates. Its really hard to make sushi with an average knife.
^^ Wise words before our hike.
^^ Pretty proteas. We’ve actually discovered that I’m horribly allergic to fynbos and these guys, so basically I’m allergic to the entire Cape town. yay, for me!
Rocks stacked up.
^^ I was on high frog alert on this walk.
^^ End of hike jump!
How was your weekend? We decided to go all military planning on Cape town, thanks to everything closing at 13:00 on a Saturday here, I find it really inconvenient and strange, but we found the cutest little charity bookshop really close to us that sells books at a ridiculous price. We went for a walk around our neighbourhood that made me wonder why humans have to make everything so ugly. On Sunday we decided to try and go for a hike on the cloudiest most stormy day, just to get out of this horrible apartment, sometimes walking in nature can turn a bad weekend into a magical one.
^^ Cookies and cream banana nice cream. Way better for you than normal ice cram and just amazingly yum!
^^ Anniversary walks around Greyton
^^ This place has the cutest little streets, houses and flowers all over.
^^ Super smiley Carl
^^ The drive to Greyton is absolutely amazing, just look at that colour.
^^ It doesn’t even look real.
^^ Even on cloudy days he doesn’t want to keep his eyes open for photos.
^^ Sunday seashell hunting.
^^ He found a shell. I was looking for medium sized shells and he kept giving me really big seashells, that looked like we could live in it.
^^ pretty yellow flowers for our anniversary.
^^ Ocean treasures.
Hello friends! How was your weekend? Can you believe its already August, I can’t believe how fast this year has just flown by. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary by taking a drive into the countryside of Cape town, we found the sweetest little town to walk around in and feel all giddy, I was really surprised by all the restaurants serving vegan friendly meals, its something you don’t often see in small towns! We are still looking for a perfect print to order, so nothing on the first year wedding anniversary gift front yet, but we will find the perfect print eventually, I hope.
^^ Hiking around silvermine.
^^ Everyone is wearing blanket scarves and big jackets and we’re just like whaaaaa? Its boiling hot here.
^^ Puppets at Kirstenbosch Craft market. I want them all.
^^ Hiking or casually walking around. Same thing really.
^^ In a place where every house has a large fence, barbed wire or electric wires, this house decided trees would be a better option. I love it.
^^ Nature making a break for it.
How was your weekend? we decided to go to silvermine for a casual hike around on Saturday. As casual as walking in the blistering sun without any shade for hours can be. We took some crackers and had ourselves an impromptu picnic on some strange rock formations, my bum is still traumatized from sitting on the rock seats! We also decided to go check out Kirstenbosch craft market and secured ourselves a copy of the hobbit, to complete our collection! I can’t believe the weekend flew by like this, next time I will demand it to stay longer.
Oh! I can definitely not forget that I had my first long drop experience and I can honestly say its just the worst! The smell was horrible and I could see piles of poop while trying to pee. It was an experience, that I hope I wont have to ever repeat.
We’ve made it to CAPE TOWN! After a gruelling 19 hours of travel, we finally made it. We had a lot of trials on this trip. Being knocked down with a cold and being on a plane was definitely number one, I was hit hard with extreme nausea, not being able to breathe and just all those wonderful cold symptoms no one would want on a plane trip. I’m pretty sure a lot of people will get my gross Irish germs and have their little holidays ruined. I’m sorry in advance people who were in the plane with me! If I could go back and time and not give all my medication to sick missionaries I would! Turkish Airlines was an amazing flight, lots of leg room, wonderful staff, amazing food that caters for every dietary restriction and the best part they let you sleep without bothering you! I preferred it over the Emirates flight, don’t get me wrong the Emirates flight was nice, but it would have been nicer in first class, in economy you hardly have any leg room and you kind of have to squeeze your way in and hope you don’t have to go to loo. Also it doesn’t matter how many stickers you put on your blanket not to be disturbed they still wake you up. The Turkish Airlines flight was also just 13 hours to Joburg, that seemed like a breeze compared to 18 hours with Emirates.
We are here and we are excited to get exploring! We had an amazing sleep at our room thanks to airbnb! We are also right in the heart of the city bowl and a quick walk from the waterfront!
^^ Delicious green juice, while walking on Grafton street in Dublin.
^^ On our last day in Dublin it was raining quite a bit obviously, Dublin couldn’t hold back its tears any more and just started crying.
^^ Saw this in Dublin. I’m still wondering if it’s Banksy or a Banksy copier.
^^ Passports ready and waiting to go!
^^ Turkish delight at Istanbul Airport.
^^ If you feel like ice cream at 12 at night, this guy is your man.
^^ our boarding gate was really far away!
^^ A South African plane in Joburg.
^^ Thanks Joburg! This was the only friendly thing we saw in Joburg, every single staff member at the airport was extremely rude to us and completely ignored us. The only good part was I know now that I don’t have ebola, thanks to a rude scan they did.
^^ Selfie on a soldier list in St Patrick’s Cathedral.
^^ Carl and his stick.
The short days are finally over and all of sudden its spring, night time comes by way later these days, and the days are glorious. The perfect, just warm enough weather to really go meander in and not feel uncomfortable, every time I think I can’t possibly fall more in love with Dublin, I fall harder than before. At this rate I’m going to start stalking Dublin!
Walking around everywhere and anywhere has been the most amazing treat for me, walking around in a city is the best way to explore all the little nooks and crannies, we walk the same route into the city every day, but every time I see something new. After church yesterday Carl and I decided to wait until it got dark to go take a walk in the city. Since we’ve been here we haven’t really been out at night, mostly because we’ve been too tired from day time activities.
Dublin at night is when the city comes alive! People walking to restaurants, coming home from a hard day at the pub, couples strolling down twinkle light streets, parents playing with their kids trying to tucker them out before bed and dogs everywhere, getting taken on numerous walks.
^^ beautiful sunset over the canal.
^^ Bicycles waiting to be taken for a ride.
^^ Carl, looking at bicycle hire machine. I love his little hat.
^^ Just standing around in the pretty lights.
^^ The theatre looks magical.
^^Standing in the triangle.
^^ Swinging from the pole.
^^ Even the bars look good at night.
^^ I love the reflection on the water.
^^ Big ol’ bridge.
^^ Casual strolls.
^^This old school boat gave a creepy feel.
^^ Even the churches get in on the lights.
^^ You can rest your weary bones and stare at this colourful city right here.
Walking around after dark felt like such a freeing thing to do. Walking without fear, with no specific reason in mind and just wanting to scream “I LOVE YOU DUBLIN”, is amazing.
It feels like a lifetime since I’ve done an update of life posts, but with all the great things to see and all the great things I want you guys to see it hasn’t felt like I’ve had any time at all. Life here is just perfect, the weather, the houses, the people and all the different chip flavours that make you wonder “how will I ever choose?”! Being able to walk around everywhere and only have to worry about the new blisters forming on my feet, and being absolutely ravenous when we get back to our little home. Dublin is an incredible place, church bells constantly ringing and just a wonderful atmosphere that makes you believe anything is possible.
After searching for the perfect church for us we finally found one that felt right, when your soul gets touched you know you have the right church! The sense of belonging and truth really resonated with both of us. Carl kept saying it felt like people were speaking about him, like they’ve lived his life! Growing up in a Dutch reformed church (protestant), Carl and I both never felt like this was the right fit for us, but going to all the different churches, doing research and finding the one that had the same believes, values and that just felt right finally happened. It was like a like coming on that’s filled us both with extreme joy. Okay, okay. Enough about our spiritual enlightenment, lets get to photos!
^^ Life is a walk in the park, or many parks if you are in Ireland.
^^ I think Carl heard something?
^^ Carl was really happy about his outfit. You can see the joy in his eyes.
^^ Cutest lion ever?
^^ We never go anywhere without our umbrella backpack.
^^ Another day another church.
^^ making friends.
^^ I sat on his hat, I guess we will never be friends now.
^^ Seagull stalking.
^^ Whose hands are these?
^^ This place is so lovely, but try not to walk around here during lunch break. All the office folk come out to have a cigarette break, its like fighting your way out of a smog.
^^ The wind does wonderful things to his hair.
^^ His album cover.
^^ This car must have been standing here for a while, just look at the pretty leave prints!
How was your weekend?
