I would like to say this is the first Christmas tree Arren has tried to destroy, but in a span of four days he has tried to destroy two. Continue reading
Today I wanted to share our home office with you guys. When we first moved into this little farm cottage the one things we knew we wanted was a home office/study. We wanted to create a little haven where we could feel inspired to work and study without feeling distracted by clutter and mess. We tried to keep the space clean and express our unique personalities in our decor, we also got our frugal on and got most of the stuff for free, charity shops, made by yours truly and gifted from lovely parents.
Take a gander into our little abode.
^^ I promise we do get work done in here.
^^ No office is complete without some motivational art all over the wall.
^^ I used a clipboard as a frame to add a touch of whimsy and so I can interchange artwork. The little chalkboard is for writing love notes of course! I also added a string of photos.
^^ Bright coloured frames and motivational quotes, to really get you working.
^^ I have an unnatural fear of frogs, so this is the closest I will ever get to batmaning it, and frog woman just doesn’t sound like a superhero I would want to be. The little pot plant in the background has rosemary in it. I read an article about rosemary improving memory.
^^ This guy is always studying.
^^ everybody needs a pompom garland in their office.
^^ My reading corner. I would suggest everyone arm knit themselves a blanket. These babies are so warm and cosy!
^^ This was Carl’s grandfathers chair, that was given to his mother. She covered all her furniture in this hideous material, because she had 3 boys running a mock in her house. I would have loved to get this reupholstered in a nicer fabric.
^^ You can’t have a reading chair without a basket of yarn. That’s just crazy.
^^ I lightly spray painted this wooden ladder to give it a more weathered look. The little bookcase to the right is just 4 black crates.
^^ The bottom ladder step is filled with books.
^^ We are plant crazy in this house.
^^ Starwars lego, biker mice from Mars and harry potter books? We nerd it up hard in here.
^^ on top of the crates we have old cameras and a basket filled with this and that.
^^ Books, books, books and my grandmothers wedding cake topper.
^^ We have a long ledge above the cupboard, we have 4 crates up there filled with nonsense and on the other side we have musical instruments and this plant.
I hope you enjoyed the little tour of our home office. This post was inspired by WeWork a community of co-working office spaces across the U.S, they have great rates and is a mighty fine option for everything from start ups to freelancers. Go check them out
Rubeus Hagrid or Hagrid is one of the most interesting characters in Harry Potter. The groundskeeper and general nice guy of Hogwarts, stayed in a cut little hut on the grounds. The lovable half giant, sure has a heart of gold and cared for any animal he got his hands on.
Hagrid’s hut is an inviting little place, that had a lot of regular visitors ( I’m looking at you Harry and the gang), it was homely with a lot of charm.
Quilts, wooden floors, a fireplace that was used for cooking, hanging baskets are just a few things I think about when imagining Hagrid’s hut. Also pumpkins, lots and lots of pumpkins. The pumpkin juice has to come from somewhere!
Let’s bring Hagrid’s hut alive and a little bit more liveable.
^^ Growing some pumpkins in unique ways is the first step in bringing a little Hagrid into your home.
^^ Instead of hanging cages on your ceiling. Why not hang pretty baskets.
^^ When your wand is an umbrella, you are going to want to store in a mighty fine place.
^^ Cooking over your fireplace has never been so stylish.
^^ Storing your firewood doesn’t need to look bad, these are wonderful, tidy and stylish ways to store it.
^^ I love the look of a nice quilt. Placing it on your bed creates a nice whimsy feel.
^^ A nice faux fur throw over your couch is essential and looks so good.
^^ Living in a small hut by the woods is a dream of mine, but boy would I be scared at night. Candles on the wall is essential for keeping all the bad mystical creatures away.
^^ Yes, you are a muggle and you have little muggle hand, unlike our half giant friend that would easily drink out of these teacups. You will just have to settle with using them as a planter.
Happy Friday guys. Have a lovely weekend.
As much as I would have loved to be sorted into Hufflepuff, in reality if that sorting hat was placed onto my head, I would have gone to Ravenclaw. My love for studying, and learning something new everyday and my remarkable failure in athletics, would make me a born Ravenclaw. Obviously Luna Lovegood and I would have been best friends, I think the whole world should just know that.
If you are Ravenclaw, you will have wisdom beyond your years, filled with wit, competitive in a way that makes you cute, filled with intellect and will be so quirky its lovable.
Its no surprise Harry’s first love interest was a Ravenclaw.
The Ravenclaw dormitories is also a dream. Starry ceiling, cathedral windows, large bookcases, a great colour palette and perfect reading chairs.
Now lets look at my take of the a Ravenclaw inspired home.
^^ Sign me up for this! Lights on your ceiling to look like a clear night! Yes!
^^ A sun room or a sky light is a perfect way of seeing stars at night.
^^ The perfect reading chair for every Ravenclaw at heart.
^^ My love for cathedral windows, is drastically increased when I look at these.
^^ Any good Ravenclaw must have a large bookcase somewhere in their home.
^^ The Perfect blue couches for your quirky house. The last one is my favourite.
^^ When you are a proud Ravenclaw, you will have to let your love overflow and decorate your house with ravens. And so it shall be.
^^ Now, go get your study on at one of these desks.
Lets look at my take of a
Today’s Harry Potter Home Inspiration is all about…black and yellow, black and yellow, black and yellow…you know what it is? Its Hufflepuff this song is about Hufflepuff!
The Hufflepuff house of gets a lot of grief, but to me its the dream house. First of all when your house founder looks like this.
You know you are in the right house. She seems like the kind of person I would want to invite over for dinner, for some light conversation and lovely talks about gardening. She was also the only house founder that said yes to everyone, she will teach them all! Isn’t that how we all should be? Believing in everyone, even if they don’t believe in themselves. Hufflepuff has Tonks, the coolest witch to ever grace the pages of Harry potter, and smouldering mcsmoulder pants himself, Cedric.
If you are a Hufflepuff you will value hard work, patience, loyalty and fair play. So if you think about it Hufflepuff is the house with some of the best people.
The common room is airy, filled with house plants and has a rustic quality to it. They are also situated in the basement, right by the kitchen, so midnight feast, must have happened often.
Let get Huffling!
^^ I’ve always been a big fan of yellow. Its such a happy colour, that instantly brightens a room and these yellow couches, just scream Hufflepuff.
^^ Round windows! I don’t even know what to say about these! All houses should immediately have these.
^^ I love house plants everywhere and how could you not want to be a chilled plant loving hufflepuff with these house plant ideas.
^^ Rustic fireplace to warm your loyal hufflepuff heart. Check
^^ Earthy tones, make for a relaxed Hufflepuff common room and these rugs are natural and charming.
^^ When you are so close to the kitchen, you will need a buffet for storing all that extra food.
^^ Hufflepuff is your home away from home. That rustic cabin you just can’t stop dreaming about. The inviting friends that seem like family. Sitting around your rustic table and wondering did my Mom get around, because boy, you are like my family.
^^ Why have badger are? because you are a proud Hufflepuff! and badgers do what they want. In the nicest way possible.
Happy Friday folks!
Happy Friday everyone! This week seemed to have just flown by and now its time for weekend fun yet again. By weekend fun I mean I’ll be taking photos of Carl while he studies being bored.
When I think about Slytherin I don’t think about Draco, any of the death eaters, Voldemort or even Prof Snape. I think about this guy.
Yes, the captain of the quidditch team himself Marcus Flint. This guy’s face will forever be imprinted on my face, he just seems so mean and what nightmares are made of. If you think about Slytherin, the first thing I think about is great fashion sense, I mean none of those guys were in a competition to see who could wear the ugliest sweater. They took fashion risk that worked. If you are a born Slytherin you were most likely a pure blood that showed traits of ambition, cunning and leadership, but personally I would have begged that hat to put me in the house so I could wear the outfits. Its my two favourite colours wrapped in a perfect combo, well I don’t think I would have liked all unhappy vibes these guys oozed out.
Slytherin had a lot of great elements in their common room. Yes, it might have been in a dungeon, but they sure knew how to live. From leather couches ( faux leather of course), chess tables to make you want to learn the game, window reading nooks to weird skull decor scattered around the place.
Now Lets take a look at my take of the Slytherin Dungeon.
^^ These really lovely chess tables look like they could have been donated by Draco’s dad.
^^ Because if you are going to give your all during a chess game, you have to sit in luxury.
^^ Because, when you are a pure blood only the best oriental rugs will do for your living situation.
^^ The faux leather couches of your dreams.
^^ Faux leather ottomans/coffee table? Why not, when you are slytherin. You can never have to much of a good thing.
^^ I’m not a big fan of round dining room tables, but these ones sure make me feel a sense of comradery that will be shared with fellow pure bloods.
^^ Reading nook in your bedroom. Sign me up!
^^ Offbeat home decor, with a serious hints of disturbing. Yes, these are all aspects that make slytherin so unique. I’m serious considering trying out the little skull cacti! Its super cute.
Hope you found so inspiration.
Yes, its Friday and that means its time for Harry Potter home inspiration. I will probably run out of steam with this soon, but until then I will enjoy these fun blog posts.
Professor Dumbledore’s office, is a rather cluttered space, filled with books, globes and memories suitable of a hundred and something year old wizard. His space is filled with bold statement pieces and walls covered in bookcases. The art work consists of a lot of portraits with big frames. His office makes me giddy with possibility.
Here is my take on his office.
^^ The first thing you have to get is a bold statement desk and all these have that chunky, wooden I should be in your office right now, feel to them.
^^ These bold chair is enough to make anyone feel like a headmaster of a school. Remember you need something that will support your very large wizard hat when you lean back.
^^ A wall bookcase with a ladder, should be in my house right now! I’m just in love with these and need to get my book collection to this level.
^^ These bold lantern theme chandeliers are the perfect take on Dumbledore’s office. The one kind of looks like a drone, but I like it.
^^ I’m not a big fan of having portraits as art, but these sure did change my mind.
^^ I’m already a big fan of globes. I guess I have a little Dumbledore in me.
Happy Friday everyone! Hope you found some inspiration from this post. Decorating your house should be fun and not a chore. Enjoy it!
Finding inspiration from Harry Potter is rather easy. You can find something that everyone will like. Unlike the Weasley’s the Dursley’s have a more feminine with a slight hint of sophistication home. The Dursley’s are not a likeable bunch, but you can see some lovely decor in their home. The neutral striped wallpaper, big framed wall art, little room under the stairs, floral print, large standing lamps, wall sconce, big display cabinet, the beautiful round dining room table all makes this a wonderfully splendid home.
This is my take on the Dursley house
^^ I love these sconce. Its a beautifully modern take on the classic looking sconce seen in the Dursley house.
^^I really like the look of wallpaper and this one is just something special. Don’t even get me started on my love of stripes.
^^ Harry doesn’t live under these stairs, but these are sure good ideas. A small guest loo that is sure to impress to your guest and bring out the child in you and a lovely reading spot, it just makes me crave stairs.
^^ Large framed art. Art grouping just looks pleasing to the eye.
^^ This is a lovely standing lamp that will just look good in any room.
^^ I’m not the biggest fan of floral, but these curtains makes me giddy with excitement. Its feminine and soft that makes this area feel lovely.
^^ I love this display cabinet, its a modern take on that slightly outdated cabinet seen in the Dursley house.
^^ There is just something about a round dining room table, it feels more intimate in a away and really can make a room look open and breezy
Maybe now you will like the Dursley’s just a tad!
Happy Friday everyone.
