Arren Learns

We are finally getting back into the groove of things, since Asher arrived and boy does it feel good. Having that special time with Arren to teach him and make fun things is always the best part of the day even when we have to do scavenger hunts for numbers and he wants me to fly him around.

Arren is a tactile learner and prefers to move around and learn things in a fun way. He is wild, stubborn and usually does everything perfectly the first time. It’s one of the reason I think speech was so hard for him, it is something he’s not immediately perfect at, that he has to continually try over and over again, which frustrates him, but everyday he gets better.

Arren is so smart and can put words together and read some words already, we’re always shocked when we are scrolling through some printables that has no pictures, and he points, says the word and that he wants that one.

I’m hoping he keeps this love of learning he has, and continually stimulates his creative mind so he doesn’t get bored. Every time we hit a roadblock we move on to something else.

A key thing for us is that when he doesn’t want to do something we move to a different location first, more often than not he will be willing to do some writing practice if we are sitting on the balcony or on the steps outside our apartment, sometimes something as simple as a change of scenery can change the feeling of boredom.

A laminator and velcro dots is also a fun way to make little busy binders. Hours of entertainment and learning from such a small thing is something I’m all for. Especially when I have a crawling baby dedicated at destroying all our worksheets.

Asher’s nap time is our main learning time, but we still do other things when Asher is awake, but I help Arren with things he’s struggling with when Asher sleeps like writing, and word building.

Teaching Arren is so rewarding and frustrating, he struggles to sit still, but he’s taught me how to teach him in a creative way that’s sometimes out of the box, and it’s worked. Seeing him thrive fills my heart with pride.

an instant of life captured for eternity

^^ Arren got a new hat.  He looks so cute and tubby.  He still hates the brightness.  I need to get him some baby sunglasses.

^^ In this photo he actually looks like he likes the bassinet, but this guy…this guy hates the bassinet.  He kicks the crap out of it while making a lot of displeasure sounds.  I don’t know what’s wrong with the bassinet, maybe his baby friends told him horror stories.

^^ I just love these little zipper outfits.  They’re just so convenient and easy to put on a cranky little baby.  They were such a mission to find in Cape Town, apparently they don’t sell well.  I don’t understand, they’re just the best! We even have some cute summer zipper outfits.

^^This is one of the short sleeve zipper outfits! Nothing cuter than baby shoes.

^^ Beautiful sunsets on an extremely windy day.

^^ Its a great day if you wind surf.

^^ I actually did my hair and make up, but it was so hot, windy and cold all that hard work for nothing!

Hi friends! How was your weekend? I feel like i haven’t done one of these posts in ages! Baby life has been crazy, but so much fun.  We actually went out twice this weekend! Twice! Can you believe it? Both of the trips were a complete bust,  Arren really, really doesn’t like any form of heat or wind! but hey, we made it out! that’s a miracle in itself!

The adventures of Chafey and Peg-Leg

During travels its always best to have a sense of humour about the not so fun things.  For instance; I’ve developed a lovely peg-leg waddle on colder days thanks to a old knee injury and Carl has been chafing like a cyclist.  One night while walking around we came up with the name
Chafey and Peg-Leg, out on another great adventure for bread….We have come to our senses and decided to buy a leap card so we can take the bus, tram or train around instead of walking insane miles, because we don’t want to miss anything!

When you stop taking yourself so seriously you get to have all sort of fun, like walking around with a selfiestick to take the silliest photos you can possibly take or placing your camera on a stump to really get the best selfie on, or so it just seems like you have a weird third wheel around that takes all your photos? So go get your selfie on!

A riverside walk

Yesterday we decided to be spontaneous, our idea of spontaneity is usually planned.  Yeah, we say it’s so last minute, but we overly plan everything, lets just go here, but research everything completely before we even attempt to have fun.  It really takes away from the wonderment and joy of a place, you never really appreciate a place, because you spent half the day researching it and making sure its a okay.  After long talks about why we need to stop certain habits like insane cheapness and planning everything out, we set off without a care or google maps assistance.  We were treated to a beautiful river walk experience that was just wonderful!  Walking around without a care, feeling so free in a sense was beyond wonderful.  Sometimes you just have to let go and just go with it.  Blessing are everywhere you just have to look around and trust you will find something amazing.

We’ve been talking a lot about why we are like this and trying to work through stuff so we can be our own people without having this crazy vibes that’s not really us, but rather the environments we’ve been in.  Talking it out and realizing that’s not the people we want to be is wonderful, it all starts with realizing the person you want to be, one day I don’t want to tell my children do what I say, not what I do.  I want to be a great example and live wonderfully.
