an instant of life captured for eternity

This week has been truly horrid! We are selling things which is great, but man, selling stuff on the internet is mind numbingly trying. ¬†People not understanding why they can’t come to your house. ¬† I mean stranger danger? I’m not taking any risks, my pepper spray skills is not that great. ¬†Others thinking you are a shop and want everything new, or not knowing what a blender or juicer is, but wanting it because its cheap and sending you a rude message late at night, because they don’t know what its for or how to use it. People calling at a ridiculous hour for stuff. When you are selling a toaster and a person demands to know what car you have, so they can buy it, if you don’t see an ad for a car, you shouldn’t ask about it and last but not least, people saying they will meet you at certain time telling you they will be there, putting their phone off and letting you sit in a parking lot for more than an hour.

Don’t even get me started on the millions of people trying to scam us! I’m not stupid, I won’t be falling for that! ¬†I knew what I was getting myself into, but jeez! People get insane! We’ve hardly been sleeping thanks to all this craziness. ¬†Maybe I will be so exhausted when we get on the plane, I will sleep the 18 hour flight away. ¬†Maybe…Probably not. On the plus side, we are selling things and our house is starting to look like a bare commune, so whoooo! ¬†Lets get to photos!

^^ Pretty skies makes everything better.

^^ A house filled with things.

^^ Nothing left except pretty light.

How was your weekend? Do you have any online horror stories?

That Farm life

Not a lot has happened this week on the farm. ¬†We’re living as frugally as possible, so all the money we have left over will go into travels, who needs to eat anyway . ¬†I’ve started selling our stuff and my passport has finally arrived. I just need to go pick it up tomorrow and hope the queue is not terribly long. ¬†Well even if it is, who cares! I get to travel soon!

Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. ¬†Like ¬†home-made ginger beer that turns into a science project. ¬†I just couldn’t wait, I wanted some right at that moment at any cost. ¬†Or when your cat finds ¬†catnip and goes absolutely mental for a very long time. ¬†Belphie is already not the nicest cat in the world, but add catnip to the mix and you’ve got a stone cold killer!

I asked Carl what he would like to remember from farm life and this is what he had to say;

  1. Opening the door early in the morning and seeing a random dog staring at you.  Its a sure fire way to scare yourself awake.
  2. The cry of the jackals at night.
  3. Playing stick ball, because kick ball is too mainstream.  We just beat around a ball with a stick.
  4. Never being able to eat swiss chard, because everything beats us to it. ¬†Here’s looking at you horses, cows and stupid birds.
  5. The amazing sunsets. ¬†Carl is a sunset freak, he’s got a large selection of sunset photos he’s taken.
  6. Every time you get home it feels like a holiday.  We keep it clean.
  7. You know the seasons are changing when our landlord starts wearing shirts.

Photo time!

What’s your weekend plans?

That Farm Life / What’s cookin’ good lookin’

I’m loving this little segment on my blog! Its a great way of remembering our little farm experience and our first real home together. ¬†We’ve had to push our big move off for a couple weeks as I still don’t have my passport or marriage certificate or any identification, but everything happens for a reason, I say! ¬†Now, Carl will be able to write his exam without stressing about moving to a different country a couple of days later. ¬†We will also be able to celebrate my birthday and have a very hot Christmas.

Between getting rid of all the really strange crap that have accumulated in the house and working out how much to sell everything for, I’m really grateful for the little extra time. ¬† In my experience its always best to just do something. Stop over thinking everything and just do it. ¬† Time for selling all our worldly belongings is close, but the time for a new adventures is even closer!

Things about living on a farm I want to remember:

  1. I’ve seen flies have sex…Its horrible and its even worse when they decide to bang in your hair. Forever unclean!
  2. Getting flies out of your house feels near impossible.  Farm flies seem to love citronella, tea tree oil, clove incense and eucalyptus incense.  They crazy!
  3. Farm mosquitoes are huge and will find a way to suck your blood. ¬† I’ve seen them sucking away a storm through my jeans. ¬†I wish they were a little more hygienic. ¬†You know, maybe go wash your sucker thing off once in a while?
  4. Horses are majestic….until you live with them. ¬†Horse genitalia is not pretty, mountains of poop in front of your door sucks and the random rolling is crazy! They will also eat everything…Ferns included.
  5. Jackals have microphones and they will use it every night to make some utterly interesting sounds.  Falling asleep to jackal sounds sure is great.
  6. Guinea-fowl look like hovercraft’s when they run.
  7. Baby cows are the cutest things on earth! Until they eat your swiss chard.
  8. Having to take your cat outside and stay outside with him so he doesn’t feel scared. ¬†Or he will poo on the couch when you just sit down.
  9. Farm sunsets are the most incredible thing ever!
  10. The deafening quiet.  Peaceful is an understatement.

Lets get to photos!

an instant of life captured for eternity

Mondays are definitely for off days. ¬†Thank you Jewish holidays for extra fun times! We’ve really been all over the show with doing things this weekend. ¬†From a ginger beer date at a farm to museum Mondays. ¬† Its been one fun weekend, but boy has it been unbelievably hot, like pass out in a pool and melt away kind of hot. ¬†I’m hoping for rain so my plants will be happy. ¬†A rain dance might be in order.

^^ We headed over to Maggies country farm and got treated to this view and some really bland ginger beer, it tasted like gingerbug, not the actual delicious beer.  The view made up for it.

^^ Cute ducks splashing in the pond.  We also saw catfish jumping out the water, so strange, yet so cool.

^^ Farm selfie.  Peace!

^^ These little animals are al hand woven beads.  Amazing right?

Wind pump mill

^^ On our way back home we stopped at this little antic shop. It was closed, but the outside area was filled with strange and wonderful things.  A hoarders dream garden, I would say.

^^ They must get a lot of mail.

^^ Its plant time!

Wheelbarrow planter

^^ Wheelbarrow with lavender growing out of it! Take my money!
Black stallion

^^ Fire came by to say hello.  Hello, fire!

Origins Museum

To be or not to be

^^ To be or not to be.  That is the question.

How was your weekend?

That Farm Life/What’s cookin’ good lookin’

Ah, the farm life sure is splendid. ¬†We’ve been spending more time at home as Carl ¬†goes into crunch time before his big CFA exam. ¬†I’m sure all his hard work will pay off and we will be celebrating his success come December. ¬†You got this soul bro!

We’ve started a yoga routine at night, because you know, a couple that does yoga together stays together and been adventuring when we have time, but most of the time we are meandering around our house. ¬†Just soaking up those views.

Around the farm lately.

Celery plant

^^ Healthy Celery plant just growing away.  I love the vibrant green.

Pink flowers

^^ Our side garden is really ugly.  I mean like really ugly, its filled with horse poop and all the random things our landlord planted.  So you could have bowled me over with a feather when I saw these pretty flowers popping out from the side garden.  You do you side garden.

^^ The roses finally showed up for the spring party and boy, was it worth the wait.

camomile flowers

^^ I’ve got a slight obsession with camomile tea. ¬†It my sleepy time ritual that I just can’t get enough of. ¬†I’m really happy my camomile flowers are growing so well. ¬†You will be tea soon my dears.

Swiss chard

^^ Big and beautiful swiss chard.  Yum!

^^ Getting ready for planting!

^^ These flowers will be making our back garden beautiful! The one looks like something out of alien vs predator.

^^ Its not all about gardening around here, we also eat some really delicious food.  Carl enjoying his chickpea burger after our strawberry picking adventure.

Chickpea burger

^^ Chickpea burger with a sriracha mayo and sweet chilli sauce.  So good.  Soooo Good.

Socca pancakes

^^ The easiest thing to whip up when you really don’t feel like cooking. ¬†Kale socca pancakes.

Carrot Steak

^^ You would never think a carrot steak would taste so damn good, but boy it tastes like heaven in your mouth.

Vegan Chocolate chip cookie

^^ I made these amazing chocolate chip cookies for my little snack attack monster.

Fresh springrolls

^^ Fresh salad springrolls.  So easy, so yummy and so fresh.  I wish I had some right now.

Do you have any plans for the weekend?
