Hi friends! How was your weekend? ¬†Is everyone still recovering from Thanksgiving binge eating? Over the weekend we decided to go for a little beach picnic we were all set to take a walk down to the beach, but I was standing in the sun really early in the morning by the way, sending someone a text I realised I might not make it back in this heat. ¬†It was like standing in an oven before 8 o clock in the morning. ¬†So we decided to drive to beach, when we got to the beach, it was insanely windy! Its one of the things I hate most about Cape Town, the fact that it can be so hot and the wind can be so cold, yet harsh that you just don’t know what to do. ¬†We powered through and continued as planned with our little picnic.

On Sunday we invited Carl’s parents over for lunch and I cooked up a mini feast. ¬†I warned Carl about the risk of eating large quantities of dairy and oil when he’s been on a clean eating diet, but he didn’t believe me, I couldn’t stop laughing when he got badly effected by it and wanted to vomit, while having a headache and stomach pains. ¬†It was a lovely weekend and we finally feel kind of ready for this baby to arrive! ¬†I can’t believe how in a couple of weeks I will be holding my little baby in my arms, while asking baby A, “why did you have to abuse mommy from the inside so badly?” ¬†I hope everyone has a great Monday and an even better week.

Hiking, squirrels and a lot of Picnics in Deer Park

We’ve been all about deer park lately! Its our quick lets go hiking somewhere place that’s so close to the city and just amazingly beautiful. ¬†Walking around beautiful trees, little streams, being pleasantly surprised by the endless ocean with just a touch of urban feel and being made feel small by the monstrous table mountain. ¬† After our hike we usually go find a place to sit under the trees to eat some treats and have a talk before heading back and getting started with our day. ¬†I wish I could just sit there forever.

We’ve gone to deer park quite a few times and I have not seen one deer, it feels like it should be covered in deer, maybe its an ironic name and I guess squirrel park doesn’t sound as nice.

Happy Monday everybody! How was your weekend? Mine was good. ¬†We’re busy, busy, busy. ¬†Trying to figure out our future, and what we can do now to improve things. ¬†Life is a whirlwind over here and we are just hoping to make it out in one piece! ¬†We had a fun weekend filled with a visit to Cape point, hiking and Asian grocery store visits. Here is to another week!

Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens

I’ve decided to start being more proactive, well proactive in things I want to do, because come weekend Carl and I both get upset with our lack of knowing what to do and the typical I don’t know? what do you want to do? can test any relationship, no matter how great it is.

A couple of years ago I remember attending a wedding in Harold Porter, the venue and the wedding stuck with me even if I remember how uncomfortable I felt. ¬†Being stuck at the kiddie picnic blanket will do that to you. ¬†It just proves all advertising is good advertising…I clearly remember the beautiful mountains, little streams, and how it felt like something straight out of lord of the rings. ¬†I didn’t realize it was 90 km away from us, so I was hoping that my memory did not let me down and it wasn’t going to be a completely imagined thing I made up in my head.

The scenic drive is well worth the trip, on one side you have beautiful mountain and on the other endless ocean, after seeing so many signs that said dangerous rock falls, I calmly told Carl I will be the rock look out for the remainder of the drive. ¬†Being with a man that’s just as panicky as I am and drives the speed limit is just wonderful, I laughed so hard when we had a whole string of people behind us and Carl just looked in the rear view mirror and said ” I hope you guys brought snacks, because this is going to be a long, careful drive.”

When we arrived I was relieved to see that it was even better than I could remember. ¬†Little bridges, streams, and mountains everywhere made me feel like I ¬†was finally in paradise. ¬†Children laughing running around and just having fun, gave it a touch of whimsy. ¬†Even the frog that came after me and decided it wasn’t interested in Carl when I made a run for it added a touch of fun to it. ¬†I recommend you take a picnic and just relax and soak up the beautiful scenery and the amazing smell of the fynbos.

Life inside the cloud

IMG_2697new

Our new apartment isn’t called steep acres for nothing. ¬†High on the edge of the mountain in-between all the clouds we call home. ¬†The last two days have been glorious! I just love weather that doesn’t feel like your face is going to melt off or such hot weather that you can’t believe your scalp is sweating and getting a sunburn all at the same time, but these last couple of days have been pure bliss. ¬†Cloudy, cuddly and oh, so amazing! ¬†When its cloudy here it means we get engulfed by the clouds, it gives the term your head is in the clouds a completely literal meaning. ¬†I can honestly say its pretty cool. ¬†Pretty cool indeed. So keep your head in the cloud. ¬†Its great up here.

IMG_2698new

I’m really grateful for this rain, not because I’m a selfish person that just loved living in Dublin so much that I wan’t to turn Cape Town into Ireland. ¬†No, I’m grateful, because there’s been a serious drought in South Africa and the rain is much needed. ¬†All the little plants look really happy and seem even more vibrant than ever. ¬†On a side note; I happened to see there are some squash growing on the hill next to us, I’m not sure what it is yet, its still at the flowering stage, but you bet I’m going to turn into a serious forager when I see something growing!

Happy Friday!
