Hello friends! How are you doing? Did you get up to anything this weekend. ¬†We had a horrible weekend where nothing wanted to work out, I almost got knocked off the trail on lions head thanks to the trail runners not worrying about anyone else, and to top it off it was such an insanely hot day before 10 that I started feeling like food in a microwave just slowly cooking away getting radiated. ¬†I’m really not looking forward to Summer back in Africa, but I’m trying to survive by having my eye on the prize.

IMG_4009new

^^ When people say they like long walks on the beach, I guess they’ve never been surrounded by so much dead. ¬†Carl still looks good on these sandy white beach.

^^ We got our first set of cloth diapers, I also realised that I might be a nightmare.  My sister asked me what if I have a boy and I responded by telling her color does not define gender and my child will not grow up in a hateful environment, where inappropriate comments create a confusing environment.  She stopped speaking to me after that.

^^ Walks on the beach.

Flower season has hit Cape town! This might be the most beautiful time to be in Cape town, all the wild flowers are popping out all over and we couldn’t wait to go check out the West coast nature reserve! ¬†It was the most incredible experience ever being surrounded by so many colorful flowers, walking along deserted beaches and worrying that we were going to run out of petrol/gas! We forgot to fill the car up and the reserve was way bigger than we expected. ¬†We started stocking up on baby things, like wet wipes, diaper liners, cloth diapers and all those wonderful things, we are starting to have quite a haul!¬†

This weekend was really exhausting and I feel like I’m still recovering from it, being out till 7 o clock at night is just crazy to us now! #oldpeopleproblems ¬† How was your weekend?

Hello friends! How was your weekend? Can you believe its already August, I can’t believe how fast this year has just flown by. ¬†We celebrated our first wedding anniversary by taking a drive into the countryside of Cape town, we found the sweetest little town to walk around in and feel all giddy, I was really surprised by all the restaurants serving vegan friendly meals, its something you don’t often see in small towns! We are still looking for a perfect print to order, so nothing on the first year wedding anniversary gift front yet, but we will find the perfect print eventually, I hope.

^^ This was actually a really hot day, but I was already committed to the beanie ( bad hair day) and the scarf was just meant to be.

How was your weekend? Get up to anything fun. ¬†We’ve been neighbourhood scouting, looking for an area that’s more us and out of the city. It turned out to be a really fun adventure, ¬†seeing alpacas, finding the best shop in the world that sold spaghetti squash and we even found a falafel shop. ¬†Obviously its been a great weekend, hopefully its a sign of a good week!

Cape Point

On Saturday we headed to Cape point, the drive there felt insanely long and it didn’t help that the gps maps lady, decided to take us on the craziest route ever created. ¬†We were zigzagging going through the navy base, feeling really awkward driving through military housing and somehow we got to the bottom feeling like we just trespassed on everyone’s property. ¬†We made it in the end and it was glorious.

Cape point  is the most south-westerly tip of Africa, covered in fynbos, beaches, and beautiful little hikes and picnic areas.  We kept having to stop thanks to ostriches thinking they are slow moving cars and refusing to get out of the road and some how finding their way in front of the car every turn we made.  There is also a lot of baboon warnings around, we actually saw a baboon right as we got there, just chilling eating a slice of pizza, not a care in the world, as I tried to take my camera out it started making a dodgy looking stride towards me, so of course I ran away screaming like a little girl, while the baboon ran the other way obviously confused.

Being the cheap people we are we decided to give the “flying dutchman” or the little tram that can take you to the top in 3 minutes a skip and the walk up was great! we saw cute little mice and I found out that all the learn mandarin things I’ve been using are all a bunch of liars! They say that Asian people never say Ni hao………Well we saw all the tourists and I constantly heard everyone saying ni hao. ¬†Lesson learned!

Walking to the top is a treat for the eyes! Panoramic views of the ocean makes you feel like you’ve fallen into a painting. ¬†If Cape town could be any colour it would be blue. ¬†Blue like the skies and the water, it always seem like everything is just blending together.

Beach walks

Happy Friday everybody! I’m feeling mighty fine lately, maybe its the cloudy weather or maybe its because when you think about it life really is good right now. ¬† All the blessings in life, no matter how small is worth celebrating! I guess I should do a little dance?

On Wednesday we went on a trip down memory lane with Carl’s dad, all around his old stomping ground, telling us cute little stories, showing us where he used to live. ¬†I always thought I had a really great memory, but wow, Carl’s dad is out of this world!

We stopped for a quick walk on the beach, sometimes when you get caught up in the destination you forget to take a breather and just enjoy the moment and beauty of things. ¬†I never forget, I’m pretty sure I must be the most irritating person to travel with, I just want to experience everything! Except heights, sharks or anything where I don’t feel safe! I’m not a crazy person!

IMG_2775new

^^ This lifeguard doesn’t seem to be taking his job that seriously.

IMG_2776new IMG_2777new

^^ Kelp everywhere.

IMG_2780new

^^ Carl and I felt so bad walking on the shells. ¬†It felt like we were destroying someone’s home just for the fun of it.

IMG_2784new

^^ I’ve never seen one of these guys ( Blue bottles), but I have heard the horror stories of how the sting of these guys hurts. ¬†I felt really left out as a child, everyone talking about the sting and how horrible it is.

IMG_2785new

^^ I really like its color!

DSC_1116new

^^ Carl looks really happy with his beach discoveries! On a completely side note, I really hate his glasses, every time it tints up I just see the weird band nerd that no one wants to talk to, because he smells like lady deodorant.

What’s your weekend plans?

an instant of life captured for eternity

Life around here has been extremely hot! We’ve been trying really hard to adjust to the intense heat, but wowzers! It’s proved to be a difficult task, but you can’t blame us we just came back from always rainy always slightly cold Dublin. ¬†The flowers, the blue skies and the amazing African sunsets make up for the heat.

The heat has not been our only difficulty. ¬†Trying to find a place to rent in Cape Town is near impossible, ¬†most of these places require a payment of a really nice car to live in a shoe box of a place! ¬†We finally managed to get a place, but now we are waiting for all the credit checks to clear, it also doesn’t help that we’ve been living in Ireland for the last 4 months. ¬† I’m trying to keep my stress levels down to a minimum, but boy is it getting hard. ¬†I have faith that things will work out and we will be all settled in no time.
