^^ Nature, always impressing me with its vibrant display of colour.  We should all plant bougainvillea as a fence, it will make the world so much prettier.

^^ Found this pretty flower on the ground.  Just look at that colour.

^^ Walks in Tokai forest.  They are planning on felling all these trees.  It brings a lot of sadness to my tree hugging heart.

^^ You know your husband loves you if he is willing to carry a heavy stump back to the car, because with a little work this stump will be turned into a side table.  Thanks Carl!

^^One of my favourite photos! Feet in the forest.

Hey friends! What did you guys do this weekend? ¬†We’ve been preparing for our move in 2 weeks and trying to buy everything at just the right moment so it will be delivered on the day we move in! Hopefully it all works out perfectly, otherwise this pregnant lady will be sleeping on the floor! We decided to go to Tokai forest before they start felling, so we can walk around the forest and be happy amongst all the trees. ¬†I’m really sad that they want to cut down all the pine trees in Cape town for fynbos, but that’s just because I’m horribly allergic to it and it feels like Cape town is slowly trying to kill me, but we are only planning on staying here for a year or two so hopefully all the felling gets delayed and I get to enjoy all the trees until we leave. ¬†Hopefully!

A Picnic Date in a Forest

The other morning we set of to have a romantic picnic date at Tokai forest picnic area. ¬†The picnic area is just amazing and is a great place to run around and act like a kid again, or let your kids be kids. It was a cooler day and just the perfect weather for a lovely picnic surrounded by larger than life pine trees, fat squirrels running everywhere and little flowers popping out all over. ¬†I felt so under prepared sitting there with our little salad rolls, popcorn and one measly orange, while everyone was bbq-ing away a storm. ¬†If I had binoculars I would have been ogling out everyone’s preparedness and delicious food.

It was a perfect day to be out in nature and just enjoying each others company, ¬†I don’t know what it is about a nice cool South African winter ( Its like Autumn or Spring for the rest of the world) that makes me so giddy and just want to go explore and picnic everywhere. ¬†I couldn’t wipe the smile of my face, while sitting on the tree stump bench, eating my popcorn and watching my selfish husband find some crackers in the bag and not even offer me one, while he devours the whole lot. ¬†Next time I will definitely bring a little baggy of wood to make a fire and really cosy up to this beautiful weather, hopefully next time Carl will share a cracker with me.

Happy Monday everybody! How was your weekend? Mine was good. ¬†We’re busy, busy, busy. ¬†Trying to figure out our future, and what we can do now to improve things. ¬†Life is a whirlwind over here and we are just hoping to make it out in one piece! ¬†We had a fun weekend filled with a visit to Cape point, hiking and Asian grocery store visits. Here is to another week!

Bo-Kaap, colorful houses and a lot of people

Bo-kaap is one of the top things to do in Cape town when you google things to do around here, its even on a list of reasons to stay in Cape town, but to be honest they also think a reason to stay is the English bull terrier club.  Why would I want to stay because of a dog club?

Bo-kaap is filled with history, colorful houses and so many people. ¬†I personally didn’t like it much, just because of tour bus upon tour bus of people all trying to walk around these narrow streets, taking photos of the houses. ¬†So many people doing handstands trying to take just the perfect photo and the poor owners just standing on their porch looking really confused. ¬†These cobblestone streets are interesting to walk around, but to be honest, I’ve seen better cobblestones and a quick walk around was enough to satisfy my curiosity.

^^  We had a crazy storm on Friday.  When I say I crazy, I mean winds up to 150 km! The aftermath was quite intense, we even found a dead seal on the beach.  It really bummed me out the whole day.

IMG_2701new

^^ We woke up one morning to this.  The moon still huge and the sky a purpley, blue colour.

IMG_2709new

^^ Trying to keep your eyes open in this amazing brightness proved to hard of a task for Carl.  If you look at the beach you can see all the seaweed washed up.

IMG_2715new

^^ This is my it smells so horrible face. ¬†The after storm smell is just so horrid. ¬†The seagulls don’t seem to mind.

IMG_2718new

^^ Pretty coral.

IMG_2726new

^^ The aftermath.

^^ I Think Carl’s new glasses looks perfect on him. ¬†Just the right size.

IMG_2745new

^^ I’m just a small eyeball in this giants world.

IMG_2753new

^^ Sea foam.  I later googled this stuff only to find out that its basically seaweed poop all frothed up to make this weird foamy mess.

Things are finally starting to settle in.  We feel more at rest and ready to take on the world.  How was your weekend?

an instant of life captured for eternity

Life around here has been extremely hot! We’ve been trying really hard to adjust to the intense heat, but wowzers! It’s proved to be a difficult task, but you can’t blame us we just came back from always rainy always slightly cold Dublin. ¬†The flowers, the blue skies and the amazing African sunsets make up for the heat.

The heat has not been our only difficulty. ¬†Trying to find a place to rent in Cape Town is near impossible, ¬†most of these places require a payment of a really nice car to live in a shoe box of a place! ¬†We finally managed to get a place, but now we are waiting for all the credit checks to clear, it also doesn’t help that we’ve been living in Ireland for the last 4 months. ¬† I’m trying to keep my stress levels down to a minimum, but boy is it getting hard. ¬†I have faith that things will work out and we will be all settled in no time.
