I was very apprehensive about baby led weaning, I feel like every new parent is. We are all trying to do our best, and expecting our baby to have control of their food and swallowing ability is scary.
We had an incident where Arren choked, that traumatized Carl and I really bad, but after a week of purees and seeing how amazing Arren was at eating his crackers, I decided to give it another go and I’m glad I did, he seems to be really enjoying himself and is an expert at picking up the smallest of pea right now. I give him a combination of puree and finger foods, to keep things interesting, but he still prefers to be in control.
I’ve been finding it difficult to get ideas for baby led weaning that’s not “feed your baby what your eating”, so I decided to make a little space where I can share what Arren is eating, and enjoying.
HUMMUS AND AVOCADO TOAST FINGERS
Arren is a big fan of avocado, like a really big fan. He will have half an avocado all by himself and want more, so avocado toast was the logical next step. I added a tiny smear of homemade hummus for a protein kick.
This is simple and easy to make. Slightly toast some bread ( I like gluten free bread for Arren or a rice cake), cut off the crust, Spread a little bit of hummus and top with smashed avocado. Cut into fingers and let them have at it.
At first Arren just looked at it and really got his feel on, after that he decided to give it a taste. When he found out it had his beloved avo on, he went crazy for it.
