This last week I’ve been scouring the internet reading everything and anything to do with writing vows, and I have to say, it was just not for me. Don’t get me wrong these were perfectly great explanation, but as I read real life vows, I was just not vowed! (see what I did there). Looking at a bunch of photos of us was great and all, but they just made me giggle and think “damn, I love you.”. This is the man I love, but as I sat there, staring at a piece of paper, my brain being really silent and dead, as I had the biggest zone out of my life. I decided this is just not for me, and I started doing the best research anyone can do…… Series couples and their vows. Sometimes all you need is an actual sitcom writers beautiful wedding vows to inspire you and boy did things just get flowing for me.
You have to set a couple of ground rules with your future husband. We have a tendency to write essays, with fact points and a numbering system (Yes, we are perfect for each other). Right from the start we said no longer than an a5 piece of paper, its should be something special, and not something that feels like its not us and we just got a draft from the internet. After we set the ground rules, it turned into a competition who will write the better vows, we will see tomorrow who cries first!
Write something about the past about how you met, keep it short and if its not for family and friends ears, keep it vague, it will be your little thing. write about now and the promises you want to keep for your future, but mostly believe in your vows, and every year renew your vows to each other in private, because you will both change and grow together, always falling in love and saying the things you love to your partner is a great reminder of your love.
Here is some of the inspirational vows I found, that send me into a writing frenzy.
Carla and Turk (Scrubs)
I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, but you’ve managed to erase them all, because each and every one of them has led me to you.
When I look into your eyes, I see the future. I see kids, I see minivans..you name it I see it. The weird thing is, though, as long as I see your smile, non of that stuff scares me.
Jim and Pam (the office)
When I look back at everything that we have been through together, it seemed like the gods had to be smiling at us. I think about how lucky I was to take the receptionist position. I wonder what life would have been like if you had never come to Dunder Mifflin. I guess you could say that the office ties us together. Jim, from the very second I met you, I thought you might be something special, and when you smiled at me, I knew that I was right. I love you more than anything in the world, and I can’t think of a better way to spend the rest of my life than with you. You mean everything to me. Thank you for being there during the good times and the bad. Thank you for showing me so many new ways to live. Thank you for giving me all that you have given me. I love you.
There was never any doubt in my mind about what I wanted to be. I wanted to be with you. I was never unsure about who I wanted to spend my life with. It was you. Not for a second was I hesitant in thinking about what I wanted to do with our relationship. It was to marry you. The good and the bad, I’ll take it all just to stand by you everyday and love you, and hope that you love me just as much. That’s all that’s important. That’s all I’ll ever need.
Chandler and Monica (friends)
Chandler, for so long I wondered if I would find my prince, my soul mate. Then three years ago, at another wedding I turned to a friend for comfort. And instead, I found everything that I’d ever been looking for my whole life. And now, here we are, with our future before us and I just want to spend it with you. My prince, my soul mate, my friend. Unless you don’t want to!
Monica, I thought this was going to be the most difficult thing I ever had to do. But when I saw you walking down the aisle, I realized how simple it was. I love you. Any surprises that come our way, its okay, because I will always love you. You are the person I was meant to spend the rest of my life with.
Lilly and Marshall ( how I met your mother)
Marshall, I love you, because you’re funny and you make me feel loved and you make me feel safe. and for our anniversary you gave me a sweatshirt that says : “lilly and Marshall, rocking it since 96.” Kind of wish I was wearing it right now, cause it smells like you. But the main reason I love you, Marshall Eriksen, is you make me happy. You make me happy all the time.
Lilly, there are a million reasons why I love you. You make me laugh, and you take care of me when I’m sick. You’re sweet and caring, and you even created an egg dish and named it after me. She puts a little Italian dressing on scrambled eggs, before she cooks them. Its called eggs Marshall and its awesome. But the main reason I love you is that you’re my best friend, Lilly. You’re the best friend I’ve ever had.
I hope you feel inspired to go write some vows now, oh and one of my favourites that I couldn’t find the vows for, has to Ben and Leslie from Parks and recreation!
I will be away from the blog until Monday, as I get married to my best friend/ soulbro and go on our little honeymoon in the mountains. If you would like to see what we get up to, follow me on instagram! See you later folks!
