In the good old days we could go hiking without a care in the world, we could go to a restaurant without having this deer in the headlights look in our eyes and we could go for a normal walk without having to worry about the sun. Continue reading

General conference weekend is the best kind of weekend. A weekend filled with good times at home with family or friends, eating good food and wondering why you don’t have play glasses for your baby, because he looks an awful lot like some of the apostles. Continue reading
^^ Arren got a new hat. He looks so cute and tubby. He still hates the brightness. I need to get him some baby sunglasses.
^^ In this photo he actually looks like he likes the bassinet, but this guy…this guy hates the bassinet. He kicks the crap out of it while making a lot of displeasure sounds. I don’t know what’s wrong with the bassinet, maybe his baby friends told him horror stories.
^^ I just love these little zipper outfits. They’re just so convenient and easy to put on a cranky little baby. They were such a mission to find in Cape Town, apparently they don’t sell well. I don’t understand, they’re just the best! We even have some cute summer zipper outfits.
^^This is one of the short sleeve zipper outfits! Nothing cuter than baby shoes.
^^ Beautiful sunsets on an extremely windy day.
^^ Its a great day if you wind surf.
^^ I actually did my hair and make up, but it was so hot, windy and cold all that hard work for nothing!
Hi friends! How was your weekend? I feel like i haven’t done one of these posts in ages! Baby life has been crazy, but so much fun. We actually went out twice this weekend! Twice! Can you believe it? Both of the trips were a complete bust, Arren really, really doesn’t like any form of heat or wind! but hey, we made it out! that’s a miracle in itself!
On Wednesday I celebrated my Birthday! I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. Carl made a pretty accurate statement the other day, saying this has been the fastest, yet slowest year ever….and even if that doesn’t make much sense its completely true. This year has been rough for us, I mean Ireland was amazing, but being back in South Africa has been exhausting and tough. When we first got back we tried to rent the cheapest place we could find only to find out we were not even gonna be able to afford it, we were living pay check to pay check, and not getting anything out. We could hardly feed ourselves, and with the news of baby we had to put money aside to get all the baby things we needed and prepare for all the medical costs. If it wasn’t for Carl’s parents that assisted us we wouldn’t have been able to eat at all. Our money situation has gotten better, but everything else is still crazy here, I have faith everything will work out, but its hard not to feel run down, from the constant bad luck we’ve had here.
So this year for my Birthday, because there is nothing I wanted to do in Cape Town and even though things have been extremely hard for us all I wanted to do was help the incredible amount of homeless people in Cape Town. Sometimes you just have to pay it forward. I got all the ingredients together and decided to make food packs and have ice cold water ready to give to anyone in need. I have to admit that during our long car ride stuck in the most insane African heat, I really wanted to crack open all those bottles of water and just go to town! I showed some restraint and just suffered through the heat. As we were driving trying to find the usual beggars that knock on your window asking for money, we realised as soon as you want to give people stuff they are nowhere in sight! I couldn’t believe what an easy drive we had!
We finally decided to go to this one park that we know a lot of the homeless sleep at, and off we set to try and give people food. It was really strange for me to try and get out of my comfort zone and actually go up to people to ask them if they were hungry, the guy that gave me the confidence I needed was a young man that was looking through all the trash cans for something to eat. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the look of complete gratitude on this mans face as he said yes, and scurried off so fast, to go eat his food. After that we felt confident and walked up to all the people sleeping on the grass with all their worldly belongings in a grocery bags, and offered them the sandwiches. They all seemed so eager and happy, as they said God bless and thank you. I was sad when we ran out of our care packages, but Carl and I both decided we want to do this more often. My heart felt so full as I almost waddled along in the heat of the day at 9 months pregnant, giving people a meal that was specially prepared for them.
^^ Pre-Birthday sunflowers and a card. I felt so loved! I got three cards from Carl for my Birthday. Usually he gets me no cards, I started feeling like I was in a cardless marriage.
^^ I made a raw carrot cake for my birthday! It was sooooo good. Who needs sugar or gluten! Seriously! This is sooo much better.
^^ Would you like a bite.
^^ We collected some pine cones for our little mantel to add a bit of holiday cheer.
^^ Birthday selfie!
^^ The food packages contained. A fresh sandwich, banana, a Christmas cookie, crisps and a some small candies.
^^ My belly looks all wonky here, but what you gonna do! I’m growing a human!
Soon I will have another member in my December birthday gang!
^^ Picnics on the beach.
^^ I wanted to feel how cold the water was without getting wet so I just stood there until a wave lapped at my feet. I kind of look like a child from behind….My workout pants seem to be getting baggier and baggier…..bad workout pants, you should stay up.
^^ The most dramatic towel shaker ever.
^^ Shark watch flag.
^^ Found a little friend on our walk.
^^ early morning walks, making friends with fluffy weird haired cats, while I have fluffy just got up bed head hair.
^^ Invited my parents in law over for lunch and made these two desserts! A raw chocolate pie and a crushed lemon tart trifle. So good.
^^ Picnic with a view. I only ate my avocado sandwich and a couple pieces of fruit, the wind was so intense, all the food was covered in sand almost instantly.
^^ Birds being dramatic.
^^ So many of them.
^^ my parents in law got me an early birthday present, the most amazing food processor/ blender ever. In an instant I had the most amazing sunflower butter without oil. It tastes so good and is so creamy.
^^ Made little drool bibs/neckerchiefs for the baby, because all babies needs to be gangsta while drooling.
Hi friends! How was your weekend? Is everyone still recovering from Thanksgiving binge eating? Over the weekend we decided to go for a little beach picnic we were all set to take a walk down to the beach, but I was standing in the sun really early in the morning by the way, sending someone a text I realised I might not make it back in this heat. It was like standing in an oven before 8 o clock in the morning. So we decided to drive to beach, when we got to the beach, it was insanely windy! Its one of the things I hate most about Cape Town, the fact that it can be so hot and the wind can be so cold, yet harsh that you just don’t know what to do. We powered through and continued as planned with our little picnic.
On Sunday we invited Carl’s parents over for lunch and I cooked up a mini feast. I warned Carl about the risk of eating large quantities of dairy and oil when he’s been on a clean eating diet, but he didn’t believe me, I couldn’t stop laughing when he got badly effected by it and wanted to vomit, while having a headache and stomach pains. It was a lovely weekend and we finally feel kind of ready for this baby to arrive! I can’t believe how in a couple of weeks I will be holding my little baby in my arms, while asking baby A, “why did you have to abuse mommy from the inside so badly?” I hope everyone has a great Monday and an even better week.
^^ The cutest almost fall I ever did see.
^^ Weekend walks, that have turned into daily walks now.
^^ I finally got some watermelon! Whoop!
^^ We decided to take the train to Simon’s Town over the weekend. Definitely the most run down train I’ve ever been on, I couldn’t even see out the window.
^^ Lovely flowers, while walking around Simon’s Town. Such a cute little town.
^^ I forgot what this place was. Might have been a coffee shop or a craft beer shop. Could be either of those.
^^ I didn’t like the look in this birds eye while I was trying to eat a carrot stick.
^^ Pathway to our local shop.
^^ Beautiful view at the train station.
^^ Getting on the train.
^^ Saw this little guy on our walk around Simon’s Town.
^^ Inside the Naval museum. I’m sure they didn’t really fight dragons, but tall tales are the most interesting!
^^ Our first fire was a beautiful success. Now If only we made smores.
Hey friends! How have you been? I’ve been trying to keep my stress levels down and relax more, and mentally preparing myself for the last couple of months before our baby arrives. We still have a lot to do and didn’t even get to painting the baby’s room yet! I’ve been feeling really swamped lately, like there is not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I need to get done! Trying to relax in our new house has also been a little difficult with all the shouting from two construction sites right next to our house, you would think the construction is loud, but no….Its the people! They’re always screaming, and whistling and just going a little bonkers, but I still love our little place!
Hopefully I get to blog more this week and get a lot done!
^^ Weekends are made for gluten free, sugar free graham crackers. These were so yum!
^^ Our neighbourhood beach was way to bright for Carl.
^^ The sand was so difficult to walk on, but so worth it.
^^ Pretty mountains and such a blue ocean. Wow.
^^ Pretty flowers on our evening walk.
^^ I love this little neighbourhood, it gives me such an old school European feel. All the kids playing on the streets, people constantly walking around and just a wonderful sense of community, and the cutest little houses you’ve ever seen.
^^ A bit of a commotion on the beach thanks to a dog running after this train trying to bite at it. I’ve never actually seen a train slow down for a dog before. The dog survived the ordeal.
^^ Pretty flowers on the beach.
^^ A pretty sky right in front of our little house.
Hey friends! How was your weekend? Did you get up to anything interesting? We had a completely overwhelming weekend filled with all the house things we are still trying to get done. I’ve painted baby A’s room, but have been confused about painting the wooden ceiling or not, I really think the roof needs to be painted white to open up and brighten up this space, but at the same time I’m wondering if the wooden ceiling will go more with the woodland theme we’ve got going on in there. So far I’m 95% in favour of painting it white. What do you think? Should I paint it?
We’ve had glorious cooler weather here, that we’ve just been loving! It would have been even better if we had our couch by now. Ordering stuff online in South Africa is such a pain, in America you’ve got drone deliveries here we have to wait an unnaturally long time for anything to arrive! We’ve also been trying to get a telephone line installed for internet, but wow its turned into the biggest deal! We apparently have to wait 5 – 21 days. What kind of timeline is that? It doesn’t even make sense to me! Oh well! Everything is a lesson, and right now I’m learning how to have patience.
Here’s to another week! I hope this one is just as great.
