^^  During one of our walks, Carl demanded a after shave balm to ease his skin.  I made this and immediately after testing it on my hands ( I always have little cuts on my hands, not very lady like) felt extremely jealous.  It smells so good, and soothed my hands and just when I didn’t think it could get better, it left my hands softer than soft.

^^ Things are getting bumpy! Its been weird seeing some peoples reaction to my pregnancy.  From comments to it at supermarkets, to people just staring at my bump like they didn’t know humans came out of other humans.  Its been really funny.

Hi friends! How was your weekend? did you get up to anything?  We wen’t on a shopping trip to get our monthly food in hopes of avoiding our local supermarket for 2 – 3 weeks.  It gets way to crazy in that area when people get paid!  Instead we’ve decided to call our next two weekend, maintenance weekends.   Our little home was left in a state and we haven’t really gotten down to the real down and dirty cleaning.  We have to wash all the windows and mow the lawn of the most insanely overgrown garden ever!

We’ve been going for daily walks together that feels like the best therapy ever.  Our morning talks are just the best, even if I hate Carl a bit every morning when he forces me to get up for walkies, like a dog, but by the end of the walk I feel so refreshed!  Hope everyone’s week is lovely!

Hunting for seashells

Happy Thursday guys! I can’t believe tomorrow is Friday already, where did the week go? Time seems to be flying by and I’m just trying to hold on and get all my stuff done.  The days don’t seem long enough anymore, but Spring seems to be right around the corner the sun is coming up earlier and setting later.  Winter has not stopped me from eating delicious frozen treats, all I’ve wanted to eat lately has been ice cream and milkshakes, but being the insane health freak I am I’ve been coming up with way yummier and so much better for you desserts.  I’m excited to share them with you guys, but that’s for another post.

On the weekends when we are stuck for something to do we usually end up walking to the bottom of our insanely steep hill to the beach.  I’ve been wanting to go get some broken seashells, but we always end up forgetting about it, or the fact that we’ve been avoiding going to the promenade, after seeing a naked man posing for photos, kids blowing up condoms like balloons and a dead seal.  To say we’ve been slightly traumatised would be an understatement, but this last time it was pure bliss.  Everyone seemed so happy playing pokemon go, riding bicycles and having picnics.

IMG_3649new

^^ Exploring rocks, finding the perfect seashells, we do dating differently from everyone else it seems.

IMG_3641mnew

^^ A whole lot of shells.  I felt so bad walking around on these.  I felt like I was destroying the secondhand housing section.

Hello friends! How was your weekend? Can you believe its already August, I can’t believe how fast this year has just flown by.  We celebrated our first wedding anniversary by taking a drive into the countryside of Cape town, we found the sweetest little town to walk around in and feel all giddy, I was really surprised by all the restaurants serving vegan friendly meals, its something you don’t often see in small towns! We are still looking for a perfect print to order, so nothing on the first year wedding anniversary gift front yet, but we will find the perfect print eventually, I hope.

How was your weekend? did you have a daily adventure?  Since pokemon go’s release we’ve been watching pokemon again.  Sometimes its great to feel like a kid again and watch shows from your childhood, every time they call an onigiri a jelly doughnut I laugh and laugh.  Silly people.  Our one year wedding anniversary is coming up in a week, a year has just flown by! We’ve been looking for the perfect paper joined gift to get, we’ve been looking all over the show for a perfect print, but we keep coming up empty.  I guess the best place to look is online.  What did you get for your one year wedding anniversary?

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Carl’s dad took us on an amazing trip down memory lane, with a trip to Philadelphia.  Now, I know what your thinking, Philadelphia in the States?! why didn’t I talk more about it on my instagram?! No, this Philadelphia is a rural little gem set in Cape town.   Like most little towns get their roots from here in South Africa, Philadelphia used to be a farm.  Farmers used to travel great distances by horse and cart to get to church for sacrament, as a result a farmer donated  a portion of his land to the church, so they could have a church right by them.

This little town is basically surrounded by the church and gives a strange twilight zone kind of feeling, as you walk the streets and see little old ladies sitting on their porch stroking their dogs, with a lit cigarette hanging from their lips, giving off a by gone era feel.  You start to wonder… where is the time machine and how did I get on it?  As we walked around exploring, finding out all the little stories, seeing Carl’s dad get more and more excited as he spoke to everyone he could about the town.  You kind of realize its the little things that matter.

IMG_2791new

^^ I obviously missed out on the joke.

IMG_2800new

^^ We had lunch at the cutest little cafe, set right under a pepper tree. I had an amazing portobello mushroom and aubergine burger that was just out of this world.

IMG_2826new

^^ This is an old gravestone written in Dutch, the first settlers in South Africa were Dutch, after that a lot of the other European settlers came from all over Europe.  This cemetery was beyond creepy.  It had  a double fence wrapped around the whole thing, barbed wired and locks everywhere.  I was convinced they were trying to keep a zombie outbreak quiet, but apparently the children here like to vandalise the graves.

A common question we get asked in Dublin is ” why Dublin?!” Like Ireland is the worst place in the world to be.  Mostly people are really horrified by the weather and say “you will get over it in a couple of months”, but for me the weather is absolutely perfect, the clearest blue skies with a crispness in the air that just can’t be beaten , the ever changing weather all in one day, its a whirlwind that I love, the beautiful grey days, and the slightest amounts of rain that’s great for walking in, to me its the best place ever! Sometimes you just have to get lost in the beauty of the little things, if you start looking around you will find tiny blessing all around, and to me, here in Dublin you don’t have to look really hard.

Did you find any tiny blessing this weekend?

Do you want to go to the seaside?

You know what’s a good motto to live by? Just do it! Don’t wait for that perfect day to do something, or you might never end up doing it.  That’s especially true here in Ireland.  If you keep waiting for that perfect sunny day to get out you are going to surely miss out on a lot!  It does get sunny here, but more often than not its raining, and boy, do I love it! Its so much easier to do stuff in colder weather, than in boiling hot weather.  A little rain never hurt anyone and its rather romantic to take a stroll in the rain and just go explore.  Ireland is green for a reason, it rains a lot! but that’s what makes it so beautiful to me, the beautiful grey skies, with the vivid greenery is like something out of a painting, and when the skies are blue, its bluer than the bluest, blue you’ve ever seen! Blue times infinity!

I’ve walked on a lot of beaches in my life, but the beaches in Ireland is where all Indie songs are probably written.  You just expect to see someone breaking up, getting engaged or just throwing that engagement ring in the ocean, Yeah its that kind of ocean.  The moody kind, where dogs come to poop and rocks look elegant.  Where you can find seashells and tilling of a house from times past?  So get your coat, grab an umbrella if you want and go for a walk!

2015 you’ve been a good one..

I’m feeling so grateful for 2015, its been the best year of my life so far.  Every year I’m alive is a great one for me, but this year I got married to my beautiful soul mate, we’ve made so many changes for the better, decided to go on an adventure and just lived. What more could I have asked for?

I’m overly excited for 2016, future plans are in motion, dreams are becoming reality and little gifts has been made.

IMG_0674new

TOP 10 THINGS I’M GRATEFUL FOR IN 2015

  1. Starting the year  sober.  After lots of struggle, and figuring out how to quit drinking for good, without the help of unhelpful psychologist written books, sobriety has been the best thing for me, its the gift that keeps on giving.
  2. Moving into our little farm cottage.  Living on a farm has been one of my dreams since I was little and being able to fall asleep to the sound of jackals was magical and slightly odd.
  3. Getting engaged and soon after that married.  We didn’t want a big wedding or a big fuss, we wanted to write vows and read it to each other in private, because our love is something that’s special to us, no one else.
  4. Going honeymooning in the bush.  A bush honeymoon on a blue moon was just what our quick marriage wanted.
  5. Bettering myself everyday and working on the person I am.  I always want to keep growing and be the best person I want to be for myself, and this year was great for personal growth.
  6. Tiny adventures all over the city.  Adventures don’t have to be big its just about exploring and finding something new.
  7. Badminton in the garden.  Playing badminton on Carl’s study breaks was always a time for laughs.
  8. I’m extremely grateful to my body, for being able to walk miles upon miles everyday.
  9. My health has been amazing this year, all the good choices really paid off.
  10. An Irish adventure.  Currently being Ireland to ring in the new year is the best thing of 2015 and 2016 for that matter.

I hope you have a wonderful last day of 2015 and wishing you a very happy new year!  May you get closer to your dreams in 2016!

The gift of the gab is NOT needed here, but Blarney Castle is needed indeed

Blarney castle is the most photographed place in Ireland and its easy to see why.  Everyone loves a good castle, but throw in some enjoyable walks in magical gardens and you have yourself a grand old time.  Walking around in the gardens makes you want to start plotting diabolical things, if you listen closely you might hear secrets floating on the wind of people that walked these grounds centuries ago.

The castle is a scary ordeal for someone who is scared of heights.  I was doing all fine, until the steps just kept going up and people started screaming profanities in German.  I was sweating, breathing heavily and feeling faint, but I made it to the top and saw the blarney stone getting kissed.  I decided to give this cooties nightmare a miss, but the gift of the gab is something I don’t need any more of.  So down I went holding on to the rope for dear life,  I do respect all the men and women who ran to the murder hole, transporting hot oil to throw down on their enemies.  That’s a task that deserves extra pay in my opinion!

The grounds are  filled with numerous wonders that makes you gasp, like Carl said,  even the ugliest, dullest Prince could have any Princess  he wants with grounds like these, and I agree completely! Who needs love when you have grounds to get lost on! Just joking, we all need more love.    Tiny bridges makes you feel like putting on your prettiest dress to dance the night away in, or just to go for stroll with your favourite suitor. If that’s not your cup of tea, maybe you could just have a cup of tea and hope the rain doesn’t get you, because running in fancy dress must be a mission, for any young maiden.

Christmas Feasting!

Christmas is always a special time, and this year was definitely the best Christmas ever!  The cold weather, being able to wear cosy clothes, fires and just a Christmas spirit that can’t be beaten.  Ireland is magical, being here with the person I love most in this world has been wonderful.  You don’t need to exchange gifts when you are married to the best present in the world.  So cheesy, I know, I can literally spread that cheese on bread and enjoy a toasted sandwich! but its true, there is just something about blasting the Christmas carols and watching a lot of Christmas movies that brings out everything you are grateful for or just a whole lot of boring old person vibes.  Whatever it is, I sure like it.

We celebrated with feasting on a lot of food, in true Christmas fashion, but can gluten free, sugar free and vegan really be binge eating? We actually ate small amounts and binge ate the rest the next day.  We are crazy like that.

IMG_0693new

^^ That awkward moment when your cauliflower looks like a roasted brain.  Roasted brain for dinner anyone? It was remarkable delicious.  I could do with another one right now.  Garlic and herb deliciousness right here.
