Bray Cliff Walk

Bray cliff walk is such a breeze compared to the Howth cliff walk.  There is just something about a fence and train tracks in between me and the ocean that made me feel a million times safer! This quick 7 km ff walk felt way too short and left me wanting more.   Being surrounded by ocean and cliff feels surreal! The walk is believed to have been around since the medieval time,  allowing men to carry equipment for the construction of the railway.  So, if you think you’re having a hard time finishing the walk, think about the men carrying heavy equipment along it and its sure to put a skip in your step and take those tired, hungry feeling right away!

The end parts gets a little boring, but seeing Carl slip around in mud made the end bit really entertaining! After the hike we hopped on a train and headed back home and so grateful to sit down.

^^ Always happy little Carl.  I’m so grateful for the 4 months we’ve had to spend together non stop, I’ve seen the effect this trip has had on Carl and how he’s grown into a way stronger, confident man, that knows his worth, knowing that all his goals and dreams are achievable through hard work and perseverance.

Howth Cliff Walk On A Windy Day

Howth cliff walk on any given day is not for the faint at heart.  Small paths, sheer drops, sharp rocks at the bottom and some thorny bushes just to get your adrenaline pumping, but Howth cliff walk on a windy day is a completely other story.  The cliff walk is a short walk from the dart station, up a road filled with beautiful houses with amazing ocean views, I stared in awe at these beautiful houses as we climbed higher and higher getting to cliffs.  When we reached the top all seemed great except for this nagging wind that started from nowhere, but I put on a brave face and said ” scared of heights? NO! not today”, I felt like such a warrior walking on the cliffs, surrounded by people, until the wind picked up even more and all I could see is me toppling over into the great abyss.  With small paths and people right behind us turning around was not an option, that day I was really happy to be wearing sunglasses, to hide my tears as I was crabbing along trying to make the best of it.  It’s extremely beautiful views and an amazing experience, but as soon as we could find a way to cut through the mountain, we took it.  Walking up the mountain it started raining and we were even happier with our decision to just half our experience.  Carl, was joking about the man on the dangerous cliff sign, saying it looked to much like him falling of the mountain, and made  him feel really uneasy.

Howth is a cute little fishing town, filled with fish and chips shops, cute benches to sit at right by the water and seagulls ready to catch any scrap you have.

Sometimes when you face your fear, you get to see amazing beauty and that’s exactly what this cliff walk was all about. Maybe next time we will go on a less windy day.

an instant of life captured for eternity

Life lately has been one fun ride.  Mostly walking, but some rides here and there.  With all the fun things to do around Dublin you would have to really try hard not to have a good time.  Castles, leaves, Chinese new years and all sort of wonderful fun is ready to get have in Dublin.  Everything is a short or long walk depends on the mood you’re in anyway, but the public transport here is amazing so take a bus, train or tram and activities are around all the corners.  Even the corners are great, lined with cobblestones and churches, the most boring corner is a beautiful one!

I guess you can see beauty in every place you’re in, but there is just something magical about Ireland.  Maybe its because its my two favourite colours grey and green, or maybe its all the daffodils exploding out of the ground in preparation for spring, the beautiful architecture that will make anyone’s heart thump, unless you don’t have a heart or maybe its the church bells that ring in delight every Sunday telling you to take the Sabbath day seriously, but maybe its just Dublin, beautiful, slightly shabby Dublin.  With all that charm and prettiness just making my heart swoon and just telling me this is where you belong.  Whatever it is Ireland is an adventure that I never want to forget.

The Hunt For Snow

With the help of accuweather we set out to look for snow, but all we could find was a whole lot of frost.  It was still mesmerizing, so I was not mad one bit.  We walked and walked looking everywhere for those magical snowflakes, but all we got were rosy cheeks and blue lips.  I will not be deterred! I will see snow, its just a matter of time, until then, we will just keep exploring and falling more in love with Ireland.

We also went on a church stalk, we literally walked up and down 3 times to see the age dynamic and vibe from the church, so if you’re in Dublin and you saw 2 suspicious people passing your church rubber necking to see what’s the deal.  Hi, you just met us.  We might pop in Sunday and blow your mind with this craziness.

Ireland in Black and White

Ireland is a beautifully vibrant place, so why would you want to take black and white photos of such a green place, because Ireland looks good in any colour!

There is just something special about a black and white photo, it gives more character, romance a sense of wonder to a photo.  Maybe it’s because it looks like a by gone era, that you can just get lost in, or maybe its just because it looks so good.  I love a colourful photo just like everyone else, but black and white photos would be the soul of a photo, that core that makes you see a little deeper.

” The most colourful thing in the world is black and white, it contains all the colours and at the same time excludes all”. – Vikrmn

Happy Friday! Hope you guys have a lovely weekend.  I’m waiting in anticipation for snow. Hopefully it happens soon!

Do you want to go to the seaside?

You know what’s a good motto to live by? Just do it! Don’t wait for that perfect day to do something, or you might never end up doing it.  That’s especially true here in Ireland.  If you keep waiting for that perfect sunny day to get out you are going to surely miss out on a lot!  It does get sunny here, but more often than not its raining, and boy, do I love it! Its so much easier to do stuff in colder weather, than in boiling hot weather.  A little rain never hurt anyone and its rather romantic to take a stroll in the rain and just go explore.  Ireland is green for a reason, it rains a lot! but that’s what makes it so beautiful to me, the beautiful grey skies, with the vivid greenery is like something out of a painting, and when the skies are blue, its bluer than the bluest, blue you’ve ever seen! Blue times infinity!

I’ve walked on a lot of beaches in my life, but the beaches in Ireland is where all Indie songs are probably written.  You just expect to see someone breaking up, getting engaged or just throwing that engagement ring in the ocean, Yeah its that kind of ocean.  The moody kind, where dogs come to poop and rocks look elegant.  Where you can find seashells and tilling of a house from times past?  So get your coat, grab an umbrella if you want and go for a walk!

St Mary’s Collegiate Church

and we are back in Dublin! After a long day of bus travel,  and cleaning the most disgusting apartment, we are finally settled in and ready to get exploring! but before I start talking about all the wonders of Dublin let’s not forget Youghal!

It was a sad goodbye leaving our home of 3 weeks, I will forever remember how clean it was, and the beautiful seaside town of Youghal, but my favourite thing in Youghal is definitely St Mary’s church! The oldest church still in service is a wonder to the eyes and imagination, surrounded by town walls that were used by the British to protect the town on the attacks of the native Irish.  These walls are the second longest stretch of town walls surviving in Ireland.  Its a magical experience standing on the town walls looking out on the ocean, the town and the beautiful church.  After the town walls, you can explore the graveyard filled with old tombstones dating back to way before you were born, unless you were a vampire.  Its great to walk around and see how loved these people were,  its family history that’s just too beautiful to miss.  The best is always saved for last and the church is surely the best part.  This church is huge, amazing details everywhere, stained glass to die for and just a beautiful place to explore.  This church would make a believer out of the biggest atheist around.

We’ve been to so many graveyards lately, Carl even joked and said we should do a series called the graveyards of Ireland.

The gift of the gab is NOT needed here, but Blarney Castle is needed indeed

Blarney castle is the most photographed place in Ireland and its easy to see why.  Everyone loves a good castle, but throw in some enjoyable walks in magical gardens and you have yourself a grand old time.  Walking around in the gardens makes you want to start plotting diabolical things, if you listen closely you might hear secrets floating on the wind of people that walked these grounds centuries ago.

The castle is a scary ordeal for someone who is scared of heights.  I was doing all fine, until the steps just kept going up and people started screaming profanities in German.  I was sweating, breathing heavily and feeling faint, but I made it to the top and saw the blarney stone getting kissed.  I decided to give this cooties nightmare a miss, but the gift of the gab is something I don’t need any more of.  So down I went holding on to the rope for dear life,  I do respect all the men and women who ran to the murder hole, transporting hot oil to throw down on their enemies.  That’s a task that deserves extra pay in my opinion!

The grounds are  filled with numerous wonders that makes you gasp, like Carl said,  even the ugliest, dullest Prince could have any Princess  he wants with grounds like these, and I agree completely! Who needs love when you have grounds to get lost on! Just joking, we all need more love.    Tiny bridges makes you feel like putting on your prettiest dress to dance the night away in, or just to go for stroll with your favourite suitor. If that’s not your cup of tea, maybe you could just have a cup of tea and hope the rain doesn’t get you, because running in fancy dress must be a mission, for any young maiden.

an instant of life captured for eternity

The weather has been BEAUTIFUL here in Youghal.  The blue skies just seems bluer when you haven’t seen it in a couple of days, and the crispness in the air just can’t be beaten on a clear cold day.  We’ve been getting into the holiday spirit and decorated our little home base with foraged décor.  When every bush turns out to be rosemary, you better believe its going to get added to the decorating fun.  Some dried orange slices, just because dried fruit always looks pretty, except prunes they never look pretty.
