We had all these plans to take Arren to the park and take him for a walk along the promenade, but our last minute add on, turned into the only thing we ended up doing. Rhodes memorial blew my mind, the view from this colossus of a monument is incredible.
The one thing about Cape town that everyone should know is, that everyday is a a beach day here. Its never that cold, even on the coldest day all I’ve needed was a thin jumper and maybe a scarf, because scarves bring any outfit together, right? And sometimes there is no need for a jumper at all! Cape town really struggles to do winter, its always trying to force its hand by showing signs of summer. I’ve really enjoyed all the flowers out and the butterflies dancing from one flower to another. Even on the dreariest day, the sun will come out eventually and blind you with how blue the sky is.
Over the weekend we headed to fishhoek beach, its got a wonderful little walk way that’s just filled with amazing scenery everywhere you look! Except when you pass a really old, extremely sun damaged man, sun bathing in the tiniest speedo you’ve ever seen, then you try not to make eye contact while shuffling away fast. Even the beach is beautifully sandy and not that packed; it just seems like the best place to play around and build some sandcastles.
^^ Sandy beaches in between the mountains.
^^ Everyone looked so happy playing around.
^^ Kelp and blue ocean.
^^ walkway smiling and awkward feet. I don’t know how I always get my feet in these obscene positions.
^^ I could totally write a novel here or a screen play.
^^ Happy Carl.
Have a great Friday guys, eat some fries and have a wonderful weekend.
^^ Hiking around silvermine.
^^ Everyone is wearing blanket scarves and big jackets and we’re just like whaaaaa? Its boiling hot here.
^^ Puppets at Kirstenbosch Craft market. I want them all.
^^ Hiking or casually walking around. Same thing really.
^^ In a place where every house has a large fence, barbed wire or electric wires, this house decided trees would be a better option. I love it.
^^ Nature making a break for it.
How was your weekend? we decided to go to silvermine for a casual hike around on Saturday. As casual as walking in the blistering sun without any shade for hours can be. We took some crackers and had ourselves an impromptu picnic on some strange rock formations, my bum is still traumatized from sitting on the rock seats! We also decided to go check out Kirstenbosch craft market and secured ourselves a copy of the hobbit, to complete our collection! I can’t believe the weekend flew by like this, next time I will demand it to stay longer.
Oh! I can definitely not forget that I had my first long drop experience and I can honestly say its just the worst! The smell was horrible and I could see piles of poop while trying to pee. It was an experience, that I hope I wont have to ever repeat.
^^ I seem to be smirking? Walks around Harold Porter Gardens. Its incredibly beautiful! Even if a frog decided to chase me down a path.
^^ Company gardens is beautiful but I’ve never been so harassed in my entire life. From the second we got out the car people were begging and just generally harassing us. It felt like I was wearing a money dress or something.
^^ Pretty proteas.
^^ One thing Ireland was missing, was some man made objects to put cameras on for a quick self timer photo.
^^ There are leopards in these mountains.
^^ advice from nature…Flower everywhere!
^^ a quick ocean staring stop.
^^ Pretty smile.
^^ Squirrels demanding food.
^^ Butterfly in the vegetable tunnel.
^^ Birds always find the weirdest places to relax.
How was your weekend? We had quite the eventful weekend. Driving around the coast to have a picnic in the botanical gardens and visiting company’s gardens.
Since getting the car we’ve been planning our hiking adventures, but when Saturday started approaching and we had a large list of what kind of hike we didn’t feel like doing we started feeling kind of hopeless.
The kind of hike we weren’t interested in for the day was a hike that was in the blistering South African sun, anything that required us to pull ourselves up with chains to get over rocks, no heights, because I’m suffering from severe vertigo lately and something kind of mild. We finally settled on Tokai only to get there and be turned away, being a little heartbroken we decided to stop at the Tokai market, only to go into the most depressing market I’ve ever seen. There was only 4 stalls and a guy trying to force coffee on us. So off we set with no clue what to do, but Carl, being the little problem solver he is remembered a interesting looking hike that we drove by.
Newlands forest is amazing! It checked all our boxes and was a wonderfully cool walk surrounded by beautiful trees and mountains. Cute families taking hikes together, older people trying to stay fit and all the wonderful dogs. I don’t know why all dog owners have to pull their dogs away from me when I’m obviously trying to lure it with mind control and just a look in my eye that says “lets play”. Don’t apologize for your dog coming to me! I wan’t to stroke them all!
The views are to die for, the magical whimsical forest makes you feel like you’re a pretty, pretty Princess and the Fall leaves just create a wonderful feel.
^^ For some reason I don’t think anyone lives here.
^^ We get really excited when its not blistering hot and it feels like Fall! Leaves glorious leaves, how I’ve missed you!
^^ What a view, the mountain is nice too.
^^ I love the color of these leaves.
^^A kaleidoscope of color.
^^ Advice from nature, Everything can be a beautiful flower.
^^ Cape town has done horrible things to my hair. Its darker and its always trying to take me back in time to the 60’s.
^^ Confused hiking face.
^^ I’m as big as a tree!
One of the things we were excited to do this Spring was go strawberry picking. A lot of my holiday memories are based around going to this one strawberry farm that had a lot of scarecrows all around the biggest, reddest, most beautiful strawberries I’ve ever seen. This farm did not disappoint, no it didn’t have scarecrows, but it was nestled in the beautiful Magaliesberg on a scenic farm. Tangaroa strawberry farm is great for strawberry picking, picnicking at the dam, duck watching, playing with dogs and they made a great strawberry jam to boot!
With most things in life its always best to get your little bucket at the gate and get there early, because the early strawberry picker catches the best strawberries
^^ Organic strawberries! Yum.
^^ lots of people getting their strawberry on.
^^ I love the little red bucket and the strawberries.
^^ When the glasses comes off, you know its serious strawberry picking time.
^^ Happy strawberry picking. Yes, Carl and I are basically wearing the same outfit.
^^ Kind of a Chandler smile, but still pretty cute.
^^ Yay! Strawberries. Boy, was it hot! I started feeling whoozy at the end.
^^ Check out these strawberry field or the I’m sitting in air pose.
^^ Even the dogs love the strawberries.
^^ After the strawberry picking, we headed to the little restaurant and got some much needed refreshments. Carl really enjoyed this strawberry milkshake. I had a delicious virgin strawberry daiquiri that really hit the spot.
^^ On our way to the car we spotted mulberries and got our mulberry picking on.
Weekend are made for adventures, wait any time is a great time for adventures. We have been in full adventures, get our fun on mode lately. Trying to tourist the life out of our city before we leave, its been dandy to say the least. From strawberry picking on the hottest day in the world to rowing on a dam, relaxing at home and Carl studying away a storm. Ordinary days are the ones you remember. Its all about making memories and having fun along the way and photos captures the moments you don’t want to forget.
^^ We had such an intense thunderstorm here on Friday. The sky was blue and wonderful on one side and super ominous on the other, and suddenly it was a ridiculous thunderstorm. It knocked the whole areas electricity out and started a wildfire.
^^ The garden roses are really just showing off now. These guys and the lilies are beautifying the front verandah to the max.
^^ Spray painting the wooden ladder. This photo is deceiving, I actually ended up spray painting the ladder. Go ME!
^^ I was so shocked to see someone else playing sad ball. Sad ball is my thing! What is sad ball? Its when you end up playing with a ball all by yourself, while looking super goth/emo with a sad, sulky face. This guy was playing sad ball hard.
^^ a relaxing row. Well it was relaxing when I was not rowing.
^^ I kept rowing in a circle and I could not stop laughing. My arms did not want to work.
^^ Look at that form!
^^ Walks around parks. This park is filled with evil ducks. They will chase you down and do odd duck things to you. Beware.
^^ Strawberry picking. Boy, it sure was hot. I mean really hot. I felt like passing out and just becoming a strawberry myself. I didn’t. I’m still human. Don’t worry.
^^ They gave us a cute little bucket and I was happy as a clam. I love containers. Everything should have a place!
^^ Carl wants me to do a segment on my blog all about the photos he takes of me and giant trees. I told him I will call it bigotry/biggatree. I can be so punny sometimes.
^^ yummy olives spotted. None purchased.
^^ Vegan feast aka a date worthy of a thousand stars. Dates at home can be just what the Dr ordered.
^^ Super delicious strawberry and mint water.
^^We’ve been hiking as much as we can lately and its been a dream. Getting our sweat on while being in nature. Just the best.
What have you been doing lately?
Its always a big surprise to see a month coming to an end, when you don’t even know how it happened. Slow down year! I’m still trying to get to stuff! We usually get our weekend fun on, but this aerial cableway has been on the cards for a while now. Finally we put all our maybes aside and just did it. It was extremely cloudy at our house, but the weather report said abundant sun for the cableway. We put our trust in technology and off we went. During the drive the clouds started disappearing the closer we got and bam. Abundant sun right in my face.
^^ Paying for our tickets….If you look really closely you can spot my hat in the reflection.
^^ It sure goes up, up, up. I was kinda scared when we got out of the car. I’m not that great with heights or putting my faith in a man made contraption. You should see me on a plane!
^^ Everything you would ever want to know!
^^ It was reasonably empty when we paid for our tickets, but as soon as we got in the queue a whole bunch of school kids came from nowhere at all. Must be hogwarts.
^^ We ended up sharing a cart with three 14 year old boys, so you know I put on my big girl pants and did not show any fear the entire way. Carl and I must have made those poor boys real awkward. Its a special gift, spreading awkwardness all around us.
^^ The top is filled with panoramic views and a kaleidoscope of colours. Just look at that dam. Don’t you just want to go dip your toe into it? I do!
^^ Its a really, really high edge. EEEEEEEEEK
^^ Super windy, with a slight chance of hat getting blown off! I don’t know what I’m doing with my legs, lets just blame it on the wind.
^^ I carried my hat the rest of the way.
^^ They have a lot of eating option at the top. We laughed at the mexican pizza, they plop on chillies and call it mexican. We didn’t end up eating anything, we went home and made fresh spring rolls. Way more refreshing and yum!
^^ All those drinking folk getting their drink and view on.
^^ The old cable carts. I would not get into these.
^^ This restaurant had amazing views and absolutely no one in it. Not even staff so we got to soak up these views with no one around.
^^ We got a cart all to ourselves on the way down. My hat even got a seat. Good hat.
^^ I took a lot of photos over my shoulder on the way down.
This was so much fun!
Anything fun you still want to do before the year is over?
