This Easter 2017 was a great reminder how things sometimes don’t work out as planned and to take things as they come. Continue reading
^^ Our first package from amazon arrived! Before the stuff we ordered from South Africa… Pretty silly I think!
^^ Walks around Kalk bay, are always interesting.
^^ old signs.
I love this garden statue!
^^ Cacti in cute little cups.
^^ I’ve been missing Ireland like crazy lately, well I’ve been missing anywhere that’s not here, but Ireland will forever have my heart and these saints made my heart hurt a bit.
^^ Pretty flowers on our walk, can you spot the bee fattening himself up?
^^ This place is apparently the best place to eat fish and chips.
^^ Really disgusting fish drying!
^^ Harbour boats.
^^ Everything is so colourful.
^^ I finally found a mango! My sister told me about a fruit stall selling mango and I couldn’t wait to get one! The beach and a mango, seems almost too good to be true.
Hi friends! How was your weekend? is everyone ready for thanksgiving/ friendsgiving? We’ve still been on a mad rush trying to get everything done before the baby arrives and getting all the herbs I need for my confinement. We want everything to be really well stocked so the confinement goes really smooth. With the mad rushing to sort out everything before baby, confinement for a month, resting and bonding with baby seems like pure bliss!
Hope everyone has a great week!
^^ The bees are all out and and about enjoying all the almost spring flowers.
^^ Pretty flowers on our walk to the beach.
^^ Pretty ocean, we are convinced this ship is sinking.
^^ have you ever seen an albino squirrel. Carl spotted this guy when we left from our hike and stopped to take photos of this guy. The most photogenic, yet scruffiest squirrel around.
^^ what a poser.
^^ We made it back down just in time, when we got to the car it seemed like rainmagadeon . Just look at all this rain at a nursery.
^^ Amazing skies.
^^ Really blue water.
^^ another pretty sunset.
^^ Checking out the flowers while Carl takes a photo. He always takes so long to take a photo. Hence the face.
How was your weekend? We wen’t for a walk down to the beach, but it was an unbearably hot day with an unpleasant amount of people. The promenade was filled with people cycling without helmets for them and their kids? I find it so dangerous to see kids that aren’t even one yet on their parents bicycles without a helmet. Protect your precious cargo, guys! We went for a lovely quick hike around deer park again, that was basically me just running telling Carl, I need to get my exercise in and he walks to slow. It was a really great weekend, but any weekend with an albino squirrel will be interesting.
The one thing about Cape town that everyone should know is, that everyday is a a beach day here. Its never that cold, even on the coldest day all I’ve needed was a thin jumper and maybe a scarf, because scarves bring any outfit together, right? And sometimes there is no need for a jumper at all! Cape town really struggles to do winter, its always trying to force its hand by showing signs of summer. I’ve really enjoyed all the flowers out and the butterflies dancing from one flower to another. Even on the dreariest day, the sun will come out eventually and blind you with how blue the sky is.
Over the weekend we headed to fishhoek beach, its got a wonderful little walk way that’s just filled with amazing scenery everywhere you look! Except when you pass a really old, extremely sun damaged man, sun bathing in the tiniest speedo you’ve ever seen, then you try not to make eye contact while shuffling away fast. Even the beach is beautifully sandy and not that packed; it just seems like the best place to play around and build some sandcastles.
^^ Sandy beaches in between the mountains.
^^ Everyone looked so happy playing around.
^^ Kelp and blue ocean.
^^ walkway smiling and awkward feet. I don’t know how I always get my feet in these obscene positions.
^^ I could totally write a novel here or a screen play.
^^ Happy Carl.
Have a great Friday guys, eat some fries and have a wonderful weekend.
On Saturday we headed to Cape point, the drive there felt insanely long and it didn’t help that the gps maps lady, decided to take us on the craziest route ever created. We were zigzagging going through the navy base, feeling really awkward driving through military housing and somehow we got to the bottom feeling like we just trespassed on everyone’s property. We made it in the end and it was glorious.
Cape point is the most south-westerly tip of Africa, covered in fynbos, beaches, and beautiful little hikes and picnic areas. We kept having to stop thanks to ostriches thinking they are slow moving cars and refusing to get out of the road and some how finding their way in front of the car every turn we made. There is also a lot of baboon warnings around, we actually saw a baboon right as we got there, just chilling eating a slice of pizza, not a care in the world, as I tried to take my camera out it started making a dodgy looking stride towards me, so of course I ran away screaming like a little girl, while the baboon ran the other way obviously confused.
Being the cheap people we are we decided to give the “flying dutchman” or the little tram that can take you to the top in 3 minutes a skip and the walk up was great! we saw cute little mice and I found out that all the learn mandarin things I’ve been using are all a bunch of liars! They say that Asian people never say Ni hao………Well we saw all the tourists and I constantly heard everyone saying ni hao. Lesson learned!
Walking to the top is a treat for the eyes! Panoramic views of the ocean makes you feel like you’ve fallen into a painting. If Cape town could be any colour it would be blue. Blue like the skies and the water, it always seem like everything is just blending together.
^^ You can walk up all those little stairs.
^^ Pretty little cove.
^^ Flying dutchman
^^ Baboons signs everywhere. Not even close to the top.
^^ Pretty water. It was really windy down here and I’m not one of those girls that look magical in the wind. It looks like my hair is trying to kill me while my jacket slowly tornadoes around me.
I’ve decided to start being more proactive, well proactive in things I want to do, because come weekend Carl and I both get upset with our lack of knowing what to do and the typical I don’t know? what do you want to do? can test any relationship, no matter how great it is.
A couple of years ago I remember attending a wedding in Harold Porter, the venue and the wedding stuck with me even if I remember how uncomfortable I felt. Being stuck at the kiddie picnic blanket will do that to you. It just proves all advertising is good advertising…I clearly remember the beautiful mountains, little streams, and how it felt like something straight out of lord of the rings. I didn’t realize it was 90 km away from us, so I was hoping that my memory did not let me down and it wasn’t going to be a completely imagined thing I made up in my head.
The scenic drive is well worth the trip, on one side you have beautiful mountain and on the other endless ocean, after seeing so many signs that said dangerous rock falls, I calmly told Carl I will be the rock look out for the remainder of the drive. Being with a man that’s just as panicky as I am and drives the speed limit is just wonderful, I laughed so hard when we had a whole string of people behind us and Carl just looked in the rear view mirror and said ” I hope you guys brought snacks, because this is going to be a long, careful drive.”
When we arrived I was relieved to see that it was even better than I could remember. Little bridges, streams, and mountains everywhere made me feel like I was finally in paradise. Children laughing running around and just having fun, gave it a touch of whimsy. Even the frog that came after me and decided it wasn’t interested in Carl when I made a run for it added a touch of fun to it. I recommend you take a picnic and just relax and soak up the beautiful scenery and the amazing smell of the fynbos.
^^ I just love these proteas so much!
^^ soft flowing streams.
^^ Carl saw this mushroom in the beginning of our walk and I failed to get a glimpse of it. We tried looking for it, but just couldn’t find it.
^^ Mountains, streams and wonder.
^^ I love this color.
^^ Self timer photos are just the best.
^^ a lot of the hikes were closed due to repairs, but we didn’t mind one bit. Repairs are a good thing!
^^ The drive.
^^ more of the drive.
^^ I seem to be smirking? Walks around Harold Porter Gardens. Its incredibly beautiful! Even if a frog decided to chase me down a path.
^^ Company gardens is beautiful but I’ve never been so harassed in my entire life. From the second we got out the car people were begging and just generally harassing us. It felt like I was wearing a money dress or something.
^^ Pretty proteas.
^^ One thing Ireland was missing, was some man made objects to put cameras on for a quick self timer photo.
^^ There are leopards in these mountains.
^^ advice from nature…Flower everywhere!
^^ a quick ocean staring stop.
^^ Pretty smile.
^^ Squirrels demanding food.
^^ Butterfly in the vegetable tunnel.
^^ Birds always find the weirdest places to relax.
How was your weekend? We had quite the eventful weekend. Driving around the coast to have a picnic in the botanical gardens and visiting company’s gardens.
^^ Somewhere in there is a four leaf clover, ready to give me a little luck.
^^ We went on a really boring hike on Saturday. It was just these kind of steps the whole time, trying to let people and dogs pass and trying not to slip on the wet rocks on the way down.
^^ Saw these guys a couple of weeks ago and haven’t been able to get them out of my mind. So cute and tasty looking.
^^ Roses and a sunset, does it get any better.
^^ The ocean and the sky is the same color. Where does it begin and end.
^^This sun is always so hot.
Life lately has been a whole bunch of the not feeling to greats, maybe its the changing season, or the fact that its still so hot during fall and I just can’t get over the fact that the ocean smells so bad here, but I have not been feeling well at all. Hopefully it will soon pass and I will be ready to get on with many more adventures and fun!
Bo-kaap is one of the top things to do in Cape town when you google things to do around here, its even on a list of reasons to stay in Cape town, but to be honest they also think a reason to stay is the English bull terrier club. Why would I want to stay because of a dog club?
Bo-kaap is filled with history, colorful houses and so many people. I personally didn’t like it much, just because of tour bus upon tour bus of people all trying to walk around these narrow streets, taking photos of the houses. So many people doing handstands trying to take just the perfect photo and the poor owners just standing on their porch looking really confused. These cobblestone streets are interesting to walk around, but to be honest, I’ve seen better cobblestones and a quick walk around was enough to satisfy my curiosity.
^^ really bright houses.
^^ foot pop
^^ That guy was just trying to get the most beautiful photo of himself ever. We had to wait forever to pass them.
^^ Pretty flowers and a nice way of getting privacy.
Yes, another Dublin post! but I just had so much fun in Dublin, that I want all of you to buy a plane ticket to Ireland as you read this! Don’t even worry about the rain, its manageable. Just get layering and grab your umbrella.
When we realized we only had a couple of days left in Dublin, we made a list of everything we still wanted to do, the list was long and we still didn’t manage to see everything, but hey, Dublin has not seen the last of us. 4 months was way too short to get to experience everything that Dublin has to offer. One thing we really wanted to go see was St Patrick’s cathedral, and its easy to see why. Its extremely beautiful! All the detailed carvings, amazing stained glass and just a general feeling of peace, makes me want to go back and make it my home somehow.
Walking around this beautiful place of worship makes you feel like architecture and has really gotten laid back. I mean who is going to build me a house with such fine details? One thing I have noticed in Ireland is that a lot of strange things go on sale…I saw the most amazing convent with wonderful grounds going for extra cheap in county Cork so maybe one day I could make my holiday home a cathedral, it won’t be St Patrick’s Cathedral, but it would be something I could work with.
^^ Ceilings like this make my heart swoon and my knees go weak.
^^ Regal statue man and an amazing stained window.
^^ Its got a certain Hogwarts kind of feel to it.
^^ because everyone needs a golden eagle in their life.
^^ excited posing.
^^ Carefree posing.
^^ Stained glass rainbows. Almost better than real rainbows. ALMOST.
^^ Prayer candles.
