Baby Bump Update 28 Weeks Pregnant

img_4244new

Hello Third Trimester!  I can’t believe I’ve made it to the third trimester, I feel like this pregnancy is just flying by and I’m just sitting here trying to enjoy it as much as I can.  I know a lot of woman if not all hate pregnancy, but I’m loving it! Growing a healthy baby is an amazing feeling, sometimes a little bit alien and weird, but mostly just amazing!  Feeling my baby kick inside me and sometimes flip around like a tiny gymnast is a wonderful feeling, the baby has even started kicking for Carl, not on demand, baby still stops kicking as soon as Carl touches my belly, but when Carl starts talking to baby, the kicking continues.

28 Weeks baby bump

Symptoms : I’ve been really lucky and I haven’t had any serious symptoms throughout this pregnancy (knock on wood).  Maybe its because I’m feeding my body only good nutrients, not having any sugar and cut down on gluten, but I feel great! My mood has been a little iffy, I sometimes get irrational anger towards Carl and the weird things he does at dinner table.  I’m sleeping pretty great and wake up feeling refreshed, I really hope it stays that way! Baby seems to sleep at night and kick the living daylights out of me during the day.  I also made the decision not to have anything to do with stress, and not seeing any negative people that make me feel bad until this baby is born.  Its been one of the best decisions I’ve made, I’m putting my baby’s health and my health first, and I’ve seen the positive way I feel since deciding this.  I want to continue staying, healthy and strong ;physically and emotionally for my home birth in December! I’ll see you negative Nancy’s in December!

Cravings: I haven’t been craving anything really.  I’m eating healthy meals, often.  I did find the most amazing all natural peanut butter, that’s made with all natural ingredients, including flax seed oil that I haven’t been able to get enough of.  Its just amazing!  I recommend oh mega peanut butter to everyone! Its just amazing!

Exercise:  I’ve been exercising every day for 30 – 40 minutes.  Light Cardio, some weight training and Pilates during the week.  On the weekend Carl and I like to go for a hour and half hike or walk.

Looking forward to:  I’m looking forward to getting the nursery ready!  I can’t wait to get into our new place to get painting and setting up for baby.

28 Weeks pregnant

All in all, I’m feeling pretty great about the pregnancy, birth and becoming a Mother.  I’m really excited to hold my baby in my arms and make our earthly adventure even more exciting.

Green Vanilla Protein Shake (vegan)

I’ve been OBSESSED with protein shakes during this pregnancy.  I made three different variations that I have according to my mood, and I’m still not sure which one is my favourite so far.  The chocolate one is yummy chocolate, the strawberry one is just amazing and the green vanilla one is just soooo good.

Getting healthy protein during this pregnancy has been very important to me and baby, this protein shake keeps me going and gives me the energy boost I need to continue with my day without getting snappy.  The average woman should take about 46 grams of protein a day and during pregnancy you need about 70 grams of protein a day, that’s almost double!  If you’re a little exercise nut and have been guzzling down your protein shakes before you ever got pregnant you will know how important protein is for you and muscle building.  Protein is essential during pregnancy, because it does most of the heavy lifting (pun intended)  in the cells, structure, function and regulations for tissues and organs.  Getting high quality protein is obviously very important for you regardless if you’re pregnant or not.

BENEFITS OF DATES

Dates are filled with good sugar that helps keep you energised for longer, they are also filled with protein, fibre, folate, vitamins, iron and they will apparently help shorten your labour and avoid having to be induced.

BENEFITS OF CHIA SEEDS

By now we all know chia seeds is one of the best superfoods around, if you didn’t, well shame on you.  These little seeds are filled with protein, healthy omega 3 fats, fibre and is slow releasing energy to really keep you going during pregnancy.

BENEFITS OF SPINACH

Popeye didn’t get an energy boost after eating a can of spinach for nothing! I don’t recommend eating canned spinach, but throwing some spinach into your protein shake is sure to give you all the same benefits.  Spinach is filled with folic acid, protein, iron, antioxidants and vitamins.  It also has a neutral taste so you wont even notice it in your shake.  Except for the colour.

BENEFITS OF HEMP SEED PROTEIN POWDER

Hemp seeds are one of nature’s best sources of plant based protein and contains 20 amino acids, this contains 9 essential amino acids which our bodies can’t make by its self.  It also contains vitamins and minerals, on top of being such a great protein house.

BENEFITS OF CINNAMON

Not only does it taste good on your pancakes, but cinnamon is great for lowering your blood sugar levels, its loaded with antioxidants and helps fight infections in the body.

24 Weeks Baby Bump / Baby #1

IMG_3933new

This pregnancy has been surprisingly good to me, knock on wood.  I wasn’t completely bowled over with nausea in the first trimester, don’t get me wrong I had some nausea, but it wasn’t that bad, it was nothing eating a snack couldn’t fix.  I’ve gotten heartburn once, hated that hour so much that I decided no more and fixed it with diet.  I’ve been exercising regularly, and that’s helped me feel, oh so good and I’ve only been eating healthy meals.   What you put in you get out!  The only symptom I’ve had recently was actually last night, I was lying on my back for too long and my blood pressure dropped, causing me to have a whole lot of the nausea and dizziness, after sitting outside for a bit it soon passed, but man did it feel bad!

24 weeks pregnant

It felt like the baby had a growth spurt this week and I finally popped!Maybe now people will stop loudly talking and pointing at me saying that I look bloated….I’m growing a human!  Speaking about growing a human, this baby sure likes kicking me, the only time baby A stops is when Carl tries to feel, this baby really likes making me look like a crazy person.  Being constantly kicked from the inside sure is something else.  So far everything looks good with baby and me, so good in fact that I finally found a pair of maternity skinny jeans that doesn’t fit like a sack.  I can only thank H&M for the gloriously wonderful pants they’ve created! Thank you!

Highlights of this pregnancy so far:

  • Seeing the baby on the ultrasound and finding out everything is A okay with baby.  It was such a touching moment and I really thought I wouldn’t have much emotion, but boy did it tug at my heart string, Seeing our active little baby just swimming around trying to escape being viewed was the best moment so far.
  • Feeling the baby kick.  I’m not sure if baby A loves classical music or hates it.   I get kicked a little harder every time I play classical music.
  • Feeling healthy and fit, being grateful to my body for growing this little life and doing such a good job so far.
  • Seeing how excited and happy Carl is when he talks, feels or looks at the scan photo.  I’ve never seen him this happy before!  He even has the scan photo as his phone background.
  • Getting everything ready for the baby.  We finally found a new place and we are moving into it in October! We are really excited to get it baby ready!

How was your weekend? We wen’t for a walk down to the beach, but it was an unbearably hot day with an unpleasant amount of people.  The promenade was filled with people cycling without helmets for them and their kids?  I find it so dangerous to see kids that aren’t even one yet on their parents bicycles without a helmet.   Protect your precious cargo, guys! We went for a lovely quick hike around deer park again, that was basically me just running telling Carl, I need to get my exercise in and he walks to slow.  It was a really great weekend, but any weekend with an albino squirrel will be interesting.

Cookies and Cream Vegan Ice Cream

I’ve been craving delicious sweet treats like crazy since moving to Cape town, maybe its the stress, but I just want all the candy! I know that’s not a good idea for me and I try to stay reasonably far away from sugar as possible or keep it to a minimum, I’m actually insanely good at moderation and not being tempted by things.  I’ve got some serious willpower! I’ve been coming up with healthy treats that you wont even notice has no sugar – to just a bit of sugar in!  This banana ice cream is amazing! creamy, dreamy with that amazing cookies and cream ice cream flavour that so many of us love.  I used an oreo, but feel free to use any cookie you have around.

This is so much better for your waistline and your health than normal ice cream,  a perfect serving size for one or you can share with your loved one.  I shared this with Carl with no problem, if that’s not love!

Hunting for seashells

Happy Thursday guys! I can’t believe tomorrow is Friday already, where did the week go? Time seems to be flying by and I’m just trying to hold on and get all my stuff done.  The days don’t seem long enough anymore, but Spring seems to be right around the corner the sun is coming up earlier and setting later.  Winter has not stopped me from eating delicious frozen treats, all I’ve wanted to eat lately has been ice cream and milkshakes, but being the insane health freak I am I’ve been coming up with way yummier and so much better for you desserts.  I’m excited to share them with you guys, but that’s for another post.

On the weekends when we are stuck for something to do we usually end up walking to the bottom of our insanely steep hill to the beach.  I’ve been wanting to go get some broken seashells, but we always end up forgetting about it, or the fact that we’ve been avoiding going to the promenade, after seeing a naked man posing for photos, kids blowing up condoms like balloons and a dead seal.  To say we’ve been slightly traumatised would be an understatement, but this last time it was pure bliss.  Everyone seemed so happy playing pokemon go, riding bicycles and having picnics.

IMG_3649new

^^ Exploring rocks, finding the perfect seashells, we do dating differently from everyone else it seems.

IMG_3641mnew

Hello friends! How was your weekend? Can you believe its already August, I can’t believe how fast this year has just flown by.  We celebrated our first wedding anniversary by taking a drive into the countryside of Cape town, we found the sweetest little town to walk around in and feel all giddy, I was really surprised by all the restaurants serving vegan friendly meals, its something you don’t often see in small towns! We are still looking for a perfect print to order, so nothing on the first year wedding anniversary gift front yet, but we will find the perfect print eventually, I hope.

One Year Of Marriage

year one

I can’t believe tomorrow its been a year since I got married to my amazingly wonderful soulmate!  This has been the most amazing year of my life, and I recommend everyone should get married, it makes everything better.  I feel so lucky to have found such a  caring, loving, tender, funny, always there for me guy, that has more patience than anyone I know, I mean I was angry at Carl for a whole day, because he didn’t anticipate my needs and get me a doughnut, I really, really wanted one.   Instead of getting angry at me he surprised me with a doughnut the next day.  If that’s not love I don’t know what is.

I can’t wait to spend many more years with him and I’m grateful that he’s stuck with me for eternity.

Happy Friday everyone.  I hope you celebrate in the best way possible by eating Fried food for Fryday!

Beach Days

The one thing about Cape town that everyone should know is, that everyday is a a beach day here.  Its never that cold, even on the coldest day all I’ve needed was a thin jumper and maybe a scarf, because scarves bring any outfit together, right?  And sometimes there is no need for a jumper at all! Cape town really struggles to do winter, its always trying to force its hand by showing signs of summer.  I’ve really enjoyed all the flowers out and the butterflies dancing from one flower to another.  Even on the dreariest day, the sun will come out eventually and blind you with how blue the sky is.

Over the weekend we headed to fishhoek beach,  its got a wonderful little walk way that’s just filled with amazing scenery everywhere you look!  Except when you pass a really old, extremely sun damaged man, sun bathing in the tiniest speedo you’ve ever seen, then you try not to make eye contact while shuffling away fast.  Even the beach is beautifully sandy and not that packed; it just seems like the best place to play around and build some sandcastles.

^^ Happy Carl.

Have a great Friday guys, eat some fries and have a wonderful weekend.

Hiking, squirrels and a lot of Picnics in Deer Park

We’ve been all about deer park lately! Its our quick lets go hiking somewhere place that’s so close to the city and just amazingly beautiful.  Walking around beautiful trees, little streams, being pleasantly surprised by the endless ocean with just a touch of urban feel and being made feel small by the monstrous table mountain.   After our hike we usually go find a place to sit under the trees to eat some treats and have a talk before heading back and getting started with our day.  I wish I could just sit there forever.

We’ve gone to deer park quite a few times and I have not seen one deer, it feels like it should be covered in deer, maybe its an ironic name and I guess squirrel park doesn’t sound as nice.
