There is something magical about having a baby, when you experience so many firsts with your little person it opens your eyes to the magic all around. Continue reading
^^ Weekends are made for gluten free, sugar free graham crackers. These were so yum!
^^ Our neighbourhood beach was way to bright for Carl.
^^ The sand was so difficult to walk on, but so worth it.
^^ Pretty mountains and such a blue ocean. Wow.
^^ Pretty flowers on our evening walk.
^^ I love this little neighbourhood, it gives me such an old school European feel. All the kids playing on the streets, people constantly walking around and just a wonderful sense of community, and the cutest little houses you’ve ever seen.
^^ A bit of a commotion on the beach thanks to a dog running after this train trying to bite at it. I’ve never actually seen a train slow down for a dog before. The dog survived the ordeal.
^^ Pretty flowers on the beach.
^^ A pretty sky right in front of our little house.
Hey friends! How was your weekend? Did you get up to anything interesting? We had a completely overwhelming weekend filled with all the house things we are still trying to get done. I’ve painted baby A’s room, but have been confused about painting the wooden ceiling or not, I really think the roof needs to be painted white to open up and brighten up this space, but at the same time I’m wondering if the wooden ceiling will go more with the woodland theme we’ve got going on in there. So far I’m 95% in favour of painting it white. What do you think? Should I paint it?
We’ve had glorious cooler weather here, that we’ve just been loving! It would have been even better if we had our couch by now. Ordering stuff online in South Africa is such a pain, in America you’ve got drone deliveries here we have to wait an unnaturally long time for anything to arrive! We’ve also been trying to get a telephone line installed for internet, but wow its turned into the biggest deal! We apparently have to wait 5 – 21 days. What kind of timeline is that? It doesn’t even make sense to me! Oh well! Everything is a lesson, and right now I’m learning how to have patience.
Here’s to another week! I hope this one is just as great.
^^ Pretty flowers on our first walk around the new hood.
^^ Found this cute little conservation area close to our new house. We also found a huge snake that made me almost poop my pants.
^^ Green grass and mountains.
^^ We were really exhausted from moving from a top floor apartment, but we still took the time to go for a walk and really relax.
^^ Shrubbery everywhere.
^^ The wind was really intense and it was so humid and hot in this little conservation area it was such a drastic change.
^^ The beach close to our house.
^^ First selfie on the balcony.
Hello wonderful people! How are you all today? I hope you had a great weekend and your Monday goes by faster than it showed up!We finally moved into our new little house amongst the mountains, after a gruelling two days, thanks to the old tenants leaving this place in a horrid state and me going into must sanitise house completely for baby mode, we are finally a bit settled. I always assumed its etiquette to clean a house before you leave it? Apparently not. I’m usually 5 seconds away from leaving chocolates on the pillows for new tenants when I leave a place. With all the chaos and our internet not being set up yet we haven’t watched general conference yet, but with instagram always showing us little snippets it seems like a good one! I can’t wait to watch it.
This pregnancy has brought out a horrible monster inside of me, I just can’t stop ignorance and silly comments to do with the fact that we don’t want to know the baby’s gender, that we want to keep things gender neutral even though we’ve been getting boy coloured outfits that just boggles my mind and the fact that I don’t want kitschy character printed outfits. I never understand why people have to say obscene, hurtful, ignorant things and afterwards say they’re only joking, its like Freud says: There are no jokes. Well not in circumstances like this most of the time people just say what they want not worrying how it comes across just so they can cover it up with saying its a joke. Why can’t we all just be respectful? Is it really that hard? Pregnancy hormone rant over!
^^ Surprise beach days. Clear blue water in between the mountain.
^^ We weren’t dressed for the beach at all!
^^Trying to flatten my wind swept hair.
^^ Morning hikes. No time for make up when you need to get hiking.
^^ Pretty little flowers on our hike.
^^ We are moving at the end of this month, but that didn’t stop me from getting this sweet little bassinet.
^^ Lots of surfers….Not a lot of waves…
^^ I kept running around trying to find a perfect sized rock, Carl kept screaming after me to stop running.
^^ Flowers on the beach.
Hello friends! How was your weekend? We had a very active weekend of hiking, ocean time and getting some stuff for our baby. We’ve been trying to get a hike in every weekend and seeing how far we can go before my insane need to pee starts to kick in. Every weekend we get a little further and every return I tend to almost run home to the comfort of the loo. On Sunday we had big plans to go to this specific picnic area, but after getting lost, not being able to find a loo ANYWHERE, we somehow ended up driving along the ocean on the most magical ocean drive ever! Sometimes the things that aren’t planned work out even better. All the wild flowers all around the Cape has made even the most mundane tasks amazing.
The west coast national park is just a quick hour and a half drive away from Cape town central and oh, so amazing. We decided to go for a weekend adventure and see what all the talk is about with the spring flowers and we were surely not disappointing. During flower season the whole park is filled with wild flowers all over, if your heaven is a flower covered paradise I bet you will think you died and went to heaven, but today’s post is not about the flowers, I wish it were, I just can’t get all those flowers out my head, but its about the amazing beaches in this park. When people say they like long walks on the beach, they must be talking about west coast national park? Walking on long stretches of deserted beaches with the gentle waves lapping at your feet will make anyone a romantic. I felt like I was in a romantic novel walking on the beach while holding Carl’s hand.
Next time I think we will definitely make a weekend trip and stay at the park, there is just so much to do and not enough hours in one day to fully experience this park, especially when you forgot to fill the car up with petrol/gas and you don’t know if you will ever make it out of the park. Don’t worry we found a gas station. I took a little piece of the park home with me thanks to the ridiculous amount of beach sand that was leftover in my shoes, once you get sand in your shoes you will never get all the traces out again. Now, I carry little pieces of the park with me every time I lace up my trainers.
^^ leave behind only footprints.
^^ Carl had a lot of things in his hands, that’s how this semi formal photo happened.
^^ How can you not be mesmerised by the ocean with a view like that.
^^ So many footprints, but we didn’t see any people.
^^ Baby’s first beach trip?
^^ even the sunlight was magical.
^^ Seagull….always such posers.
^^ amazingly wonderful cloudy day at the v & a waterfront. We walked around, took some photos and went to the amazing H&M sale!
^^ Scenic drives, sometimes you just have to stop to take some photos of the clearest, bluest water you’ve ever seen.
^^ ocean gazing.
^^ Clock towers.
^^ The cutest tugboat. On one side it was really cloudy and on this side it was blue, Cape town always wants the sun to shine.
^^ Flags floating in the wind.
^^ Mountains, ocean, what more could you want.
^^ Walks around camps bay. The best tidal pool, I’ve ever seen.
^^ Just standing around. Cape town and my hair does not go together, my hair has never looked so bad. Its been bumming me out.
^^ Pretty flowers on the beach.
^^ This mountain range is called the 12 apostles, for obvious reasons.
How was your weekend? did you have a daily adventure? Since pokemon go’s release we’ve been watching pokemon again. Sometimes its great to feel like a kid again and watch shows from your childhood, every time they call an onigiri a jelly doughnut I laugh and laugh. Silly people. Our one year wedding anniversary is coming up in a week, a year has just flown by! We’ve been looking for the perfect paper joined gift to get, we’ve been looking all over the show for a perfect print, but we keep coming up empty. I guess the best place to look is online. What did you get for your one year wedding anniversary?
Over the weekend we decided to go for a beach walk, we wanted to go for the walk we went with, with Carl’s dad, but instead got so incredibly lost and just couldn’t find the right spot. We kept trying to remember the conversation we had and the exact route, but we just couldn’t get there. Eventually we decided it was time to just get out and go for a walk. As soon as I got out of the car I wanted to get back in, the wind was piercingly cold and the sun was so hot, it was a mix of emotions and feeling I just couldn’t really figure out, but we kept walking and I was rewarded with the most beautiful view of table mountain I’ve ever seen. The mountain with ocean, and gentle floating seagulls made me want to go get an ice cream and just forget all my troubles. Next time I’ll definitely wear a bigger coat or just wait for a not so windy day to go play around!
^^ No amount of product could keep Carl’s hair in place.
^^ My wonky hand.
^^ If my bicycle had flowers in the basket I would ride it everyday.
^^ pretty colours.
^^ Best view.
The one thing about Cape town that everyone should know is, that everyday is a a beach day here. Its never that cold, even on the coldest day all I’ve needed was a thin jumper and maybe a scarf, because scarves bring any outfit together, right? And sometimes there is no need for a jumper at all! Cape town really struggles to do winter, its always trying to force its hand by showing signs of summer. I’ve really enjoyed all the flowers out and the butterflies dancing from one flower to another. Even on the dreariest day, the sun will come out eventually and blind you with how blue the sky is.
Over the weekend we headed to fishhoek beach, its got a wonderful little walk way that’s just filled with amazing scenery everywhere you look! Except when you pass a really old, extremely sun damaged man, sun bathing in the tiniest speedo you’ve ever seen, then you try not to make eye contact while shuffling away fast. Even the beach is beautifully sandy and not that packed; it just seems like the best place to play around and build some sandcastles.
^^ Sandy beaches in between the mountains.
^^ Everyone looked so happy playing around.
^^ Kelp and blue ocean.
^^ walkway smiling and awkward feet. I don’t know how I always get my feet in these obscene positions.
^^ I could totally write a novel here or a screen play.
^^ Happy Carl.
Have a great Friday guys, eat some fries and have a wonderful weekend.
Life around here has been extremely hot! We’ve been trying really hard to adjust to the intense heat, but wowzers! It’s proved to be a difficult task, but you can’t blame us we just came back from always rainy always slightly cold Dublin. The flowers, the blue skies and the amazing African sunsets make up for the heat.
The heat has not been our only difficulty. Trying to find a place to rent in Cape Town is near impossible, most of these places require a payment of a really nice car to live in a shoe box of a place! We finally managed to get a place, but now we are waiting for all the credit checks to clear, it also doesn’t help that we’ve been living in Ireland for the last 4 months. I’m trying to keep my stress levels down to a minimum, but boy is it getting hard. I have faith that things will work out and we will be all settled in no time.
^^ Large sunglasses. Or sunglasses for giants? because everyone deserves to be a hipster, even giants.
^^Gives a new meaning to talking out your butt.
^^ Lionshead and magical clouds.
^^ We met up with my sister and her family and had a picnic in the shade while staring at this big guy. We were also right by the para-gliders coming down from Signal Hill. It seems like fun!
^^ Flowers around every corner!
^^ Beautiful crab remnants.
^^ this sunset was amazing! Nothing beats an African sunset and Cape town makes one amazing beach sunset! A tiny boat, a bird photo bombing what more could you ask for.
^^ Sitting on the beach is so relaxing.
