Malahide Castle

We’ve been obsessed with castles since we’ve gotten here and we just keep finding more to go and explore, we haven’t gone into that many, but the gardens and the grounds make up for it all.  One of the best things about Ireland is, you can go have a picnic lunch somewhere different every day and you won’t have to travel far.  A picnic lunch at a castle is the best way to eat a lunch in my opinion.

Its been absolutely lovely spending so much time with Carl, really exploring things, having fun together and just getting a touch of Stockholm syndrome, but a lit Stockholm syndrome really makes the heart grow fonder.

Life is a park filled with pigeons

The parks here in Dublin are some of the most beautiful parks I’ve ever seen.  St Stephens Green, right in the city centre is a bustling little park filled with every accent you can imagine, people taking the most touristy photos you’ve ever seen and me, using my husband as a human shield trying to escape the insane amount of pigeons flying towards my face, while some weirdo tourist tries to lure them with food onto their arms for the most unhygienic photo the world has ever seen.  It feels like you are going into war when you enter the park on a busy day, people everywhere trying to get just the right photo to show how much fun they are having, while giving you dirty looks, because you made the mistake of just walking around in the park, because why would you just go for a stroll in a park?! The pigeons looking all war beaten with a look of “yeah, I’m going to flap my wings around in your face and you will like it” and all the excitable screaming all around.  It gives a pretty menacing feel, but its worth a trip, especially for all the tulips popping out! Its a beautiful little park, with a lot of great attitude, but when you want a more relaxed park day, Iveagh gardens is the best next thing.

Beautiful fountains, a waterfall that wasn’t on when we went and gypsy pennies all along the wishing well.  It would seem that some people missed the fountain in a rush to make a wish, but you know what…I think their dreams did come true, but maybe that’s just the optimist in me.

What does the park around your area look like? Have you had some crazy experiences?

an instant of life captured for eternity

A common question we get asked in Dublin is ” why Dublin?!” Like Ireland is the worst place in the world to be.  Mostly people are really horrified by the weather and say “you will get over it in a couple of months”, but for me the weather is absolutely perfect, the clearest blue skies with a crispness in the air that just can’t be beaten , the ever changing weather all in one day, its a whirlwind that I love, the beautiful grey days, and the slightest amounts of rain that’s great for walking in, to me its the best place ever! Sometimes you just have to get lost in the beauty of the little things, if you start looking around you will find tiny blessing all around, and to me, here in Dublin you don’t have to look really hard.

Build castles in the air

a day spend in Dalkey in the south of Dublin, is like building castle in the air, but daydreaming and reality go hand in hand in this little seaside town, with 7 castles all around and only one you can go into.  A little place where a school, old age home and a building completely locked are all castles, making you wonder ” what wonderland did I just stumble across?” or ” what nightmare is this?, why can’t I go into them?”  Dalkey, is a wonderful little town with panoramic sea views everywhere you look, and but just when you think this is so magical,  you see a man walking around in a nude coloured thong, making all the magic disappear in a record speed, but if you really want to get a good view of all the strange thong men, then the best view in town is definitely at the James Joyce tower, its free and you get to see everything James Joyce.  He seemed liked a typical troubled artist, seeing panthers and just being a horrible house guest, but all the best characters are a little bit strange.

Strolling around this little seaside town so close to Dublin, makes you feel like you’re in the cheesiest rom com in the whole world, but its worth it.

A Dublin Love-fest

With the dedicated day for love (valentines day) approaching, I thought why not have a whole post on Dublin in love.  Yes, Dublin is a city and doesn’t really have any feelings so for Dublin to be in love would be kind of hard, but sometimes it feels like the city is just overflowing with love.  The swans on the canal making any boring walk romantic, the beautiful building just screaming love is happening here and even the drunks, just passionately screaming away a storm.  Dublin is a city to love and fall in love with.  Even if its not with the love of your life, you can just fall in love with the cobblestones, because sometimes cobblestones have a lot more going on than some of the people you’ve been on a date with.

Do you have any plans for valentines day?

an instant of life captured for eternity

Life lately has been one fun ride.  Mostly walking, but some rides here and there.  With all the fun things to do around Dublin you would have to really try hard not to have a good time.  Castles, leaves, Chinese new years and all sort of wonderful fun is ready to get have in Dublin.  Everything is a short or long walk depends on the mood you’re in anyway, but the public transport here is amazing so take a bus, train or tram and activities are around all the corners.  Even the corners are great, lined with cobblestones and churches, the most boring corner is a beautiful one!

I guess you can see beauty in every place you’re in, but there is just something magical about Ireland.  Maybe its because its my two favourite colours grey and green, or maybe its all the daffodils exploding out of the ground in preparation for spring, the beautiful architecture that will make anyone’s heart thump, unless you don’t have a heart or maybe its the church bells that ring in delight every Sunday telling you to take the Sabbath day seriously, but maybe its just Dublin, beautiful, slightly shabby Dublin.  With all that charm and prettiness just making my heart swoon and just telling me this is where you belong.  Whatever it is Ireland is an adventure that I never want to forget.

How was your weekend?

The adventures of Chafey and Peg-Leg

During travels its always best to have a sense of humour about the not so fun things.  For instance; I’ve developed a lovely peg-leg waddle on colder days thanks to a old knee injury and Carl has been chafing like a cyclist.  One night while walking around we came up with the name
Chafey and Peg-Leg, out on another great adventure for bread….We have come to our senses and decided to buy a leap card so we can take the bus, tram or train around instead of walking insane miles, because we don’t want to miss anything!

When you stop taking yourself so seriously you get to have all sort of fun, like walking around with a selfiestick to take the silliest photos you can possibly take or placing your camera on a stump to really get the best selfie on, or so it just seems like you have a weird third wheel around that takes all your photos? So go get your selfie on!

A riverside walk

Yesterday we decided to be spontaneous, our idea of spontaneity is usually planned.  Yeah, we say it’s so last minute, but we overly plan everything, lets just go here, but research everything completely before we even attempt to have fun.  It really takes away from the wonderment and joy of a place, you never really appreciate a place, because you spent half the day researching it and making sure its a okay.  After long talks about why we need to stop certain habits like insane cheapness and planning everything out, we set off without a care or google maps assistance.  We were treated to a beautiful river walk experience that was just wonderful!  Walking around without a care, feeling so free in a sense was beyond wonderful.  Sometimes you just have to let go and just go with it.  Blessing are everywhere you just have to look around and trust you will find something amazing.

We’ve been talking a lot about why we are like this and trying to work through stuff so we can be our own people without having this crazy vibes that’s not really us, but rather the environments we’ve been in.  Talking it out and realizing that’s not the people we want to be is wonderful, it all starts with realizing the person you want to be, one day I don’t want to tell my children do what I say, not what I do.  I want to be a great example and live wonderfully.
